One of the early races at Belmont was no better - the last 20 seconds or so of the race were devoted to the caller raving on about "If you are on this horse you can start celebrating now, he has finally broken his maiden, after x starts, etc, etc, etc" - only after the race was finished did the caller decide it would be a good idea to let you know who was coming 2nd, 3rd, etc.
