Blow to Waterhouse as cocaine confirmed

A filly owned and trained by Gai Waterhouse which had cocaine in its system finished last in a race at Gosford on Anzac Day after winning its previous start.

If found in breach of the rules of racing, the champion trainer faces suspension, disqualification and/or a fine of up to $75,000.

Waterhouse's filly Love You Honey, a last-start winner at Wyong on April 12, was second favourite at $3.10 in the Neild and Co class 2 Handicap at Gosford 13 days later but finished last, beaten 5.6 lengths by subsequent Canterbury winner Sweet Tiffany. It is believed to be the first positive test to the banned narcotic in NSW.

Two stablehands employed at Waterhouse's Tulloch Lodge stables at Randwick provided Racing NSW stewards with urine samples last Tuesday but both have been cleared of using any banned substances.

Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy yesterday confirmed a report in last Saturday's Herald that cocaine had been found in a Waterhouse-trained galloper........
