I think as far as following a horse for one more run you're ************ed if you do and ************ed if you don't. If you would have backed Portland Singa or Darci Brahma and they had lost you would have been just as dirty on yourself.
The problem I see with finding champions is that feeling of un-official ownership you end up with, it can sometime sway our decisions the way of your champion. I know it's clouded my vision at times.
A good recent example was a horse called Zankle, I backed it when it won it's Geelong maiden. I know it was only a maiden but it looked like a very, very smart horse. It cost me some cash to find out it's smart and that's all.
As far as future champs, I think we might have seen one or two during the carnival. The weekend's racing had a real "class" feel about it. If a couple of the young one's can find a length or two, which they can after spending winter in QLD's weather. Darci Brahma is certainly bred to be one.
