Trainer Alan Mathews has reported that Perth Cup winner Tumeric is "bright as a button" after the big race but stablemate Bold Mirage was "sore and sorry for himself" after finishing a gruelling third.

"Tumeric cleaned out his feed bin," Mathews said. "He is more seasoned now, through campaigns in Kalgoorlie and at Belmont Park.

"Bold Mirage was feeling the effects of a gut-wrenching effort."

Trainer Paul Miller had good news on Alibi Bay, who was scratched from the cup on Tuesday when found to have filling in his off-side tendon sheath.

Miller said a close examination of the injury showed the five-year-old had wrenched the tendon and there was no significant damage.

"I will take him to the beach for the next month for wading," he said. "He won't do any more until we are sure he has recovered fully."
