Hello Partypooper,
Those odds we have given for a number of years compare bookmakers' SP and TF odds with SuperTab.
TF bets have to be placed before the previous race at the same meeting ends. Different bookies have different time limits. But IAS which we promote on this site offer a top service - you can also give minimum odds with your TF bet. If TF is below your minimum odds your bet is off. Punters can click here to find out about IAS.
That is why some punters bet SP - they want to see what is happening in the betting, though I don't think that is relevant if you have done or own form or have a good information provided by someone else - eg a quality tipping service.
Some bookies will give you the odds at the time you place the bet or SP, whichever is better.
But nothing can beat TF bets for horses well in the market in Melbourne/Sydney on Saturdays - (don't count races like those full of unraced 2YOs where bookmakers naturally bet tighter because they can actually lose. Unlike the tote. The tote will bet to 120% no matter what happens by only telling you what odds you are actually getting AFTER the race).
Think about that. The tote only lets you know the odds you get after all bets are in whereas the bookies are prepared to give you odds BEFORE all bets are in.
Neil.
