Not true, shortly after announcing that Betfair would be licenced the Tasmanian government also annouced the following,
"The Tasmanian Government today announced startling prizemoney increases for major racing in its state following the granting of a betting exchange license to Betfair.
Next year’s Interdominion pacing championship will be trebled in stakes with the final boosted from $500,000 to $1.5 million.
The Hobart and Launceston Cups will be elevated from $200,000 to $500,000 and the Devonport Cup from $90,000 to $150,000.
The Tasmanian racing industry is guaranteed $5 million each of the first two years of Betfair’s existence with healthy projected growth thereafter."
Also the Premier of Tamania stated yesterday that, " Betfair would operate under strict regulatory guidelines and the licence was expected to boost the Tasmanian racing industry by up to $40 million a year by 2009-10."
I think that's providing more than squat.
