G'day Mav,
It does look a tough day tomorrow, but we'll see how we go (hopefully the fields don't get cut down too much from scratchings)...
Race 1 - Injebreck might be able to improve on the heavy going tomorrow with a few runs under his belt. Time Lion has been running OK in Toowoomba, this is the test though. Mel won well last time, but i just don't like short priced favs in 2yo races
.
Race 2 - Minoa can run OK here i think. Has won on wet before, and though i don't know the reason for his apparent failure last time, i'm willing to accept that it was an aberation. His best form appears up to these without a doubt. Skyleda has good heavy form and his last run was pretty good for a race like this. Seven Crownies is a show, but i don't fancy the jockey from the awkward alley.
Race 3 - All i can say is i hope a couple of these emergencies gain starts (Milady Clang and Prend). Because without them (particularly Prend) i think Willy Leica has one foot on the prize. With adequate speed, hes is just better than these and i think he should win. High Academy is a nice horse and is clearly my second pick with some good form here during the winter months. Pride of Paris will be the speed i imagine and he can stick on well when he wants to. Prend a big chance if he gains a start.
Race 4 - Guessing game here. All i can do is go with the one i think could win on good going, and hope
. Bold Reason has something of a boom on him and after the first up run i think he can nearly get away with this. Although he has the bad alley, he'll go forward and should prove tough to stop. La Montagna is a big chance with the wet form and the good run 2 back at Doomben. Magique Mine has shown ability in his runs to date and can definately figure tomorrow with some luck.
Race 5 - Shocking race. Gazzam has wet form and can produce a good finish now and then. There should be some good speed here, and he might be able to make the most of it. Late For Tea has drawn the carpark, but has got plenty of ability and if he can get in, he'll be right there. Dance Sally Dance will appreciate the drop in class here, after running behind Helter Skelter in the last 2 runs.
Race 6 - A Little Naughty is the way i've gone here. With some OK runs first and second up, and some good form on wet tracks, she'll do me fine. Behind what looks to be a hot speed, i think she'll be up there getting a nice run, and can finish over the top of them. Shysu is never far from the action and will certainly figure again tomorrow. Persuades being in the race is a worry because both of them like to run along out in front. Happier was a big effort to win last time, but the weight might prove difficult against some of these better mares.
Race 7 - With Planagram engaged, there should be enough speed for any horse to win. For that reason, i've settled on Templin. Will get a fair way back, but the wet track shouldn't worry and the distance should be exactly what he's looking for after some good runs recently. Hissy Fit is in great form and can certainly go on with it here, after Byrne has stuck and has the rails draw. Prosecution is as honest as they come and will have derived benefit from the last run, and can go one better tomorrow with an ounce of luck.
Race 8 - Appertain. I think he can go close tomorrow. Good wet form, has had a run or 2 recently for fitness. Can lead from the good alley, and showed a few months back that he was up to city class. Fleet Baron tends to run on without winning, but you can't leave him out totally. Stars o' Gold has been in good form without winning lately, but that can change tomorrow from the good alley.
On what is seemingly a pretty hard day, my best are Bold Reason and Templin with a good rough chance to Appertain.
Good luck all
Sven
