Stewards report "Kawi became fractious when leaving the mounting enclosure and upon entering the track. Commenced awkwardly and steadied outwards near the 1300m and raced keenly through the early stages. Lay inwards over the final 200m. In relation to the performance, rider explained that although the gelding had a tendency to race keenly in the early stages it then settled and raced in a flat manner which he attributed to it racing a short period after travelling a considerable distance to Perth"
