I haven't seen the ad and definitely wouldn't ever order such a 'product'.

Partly because as you discovered, it is highly likely to be some sort of ********, in this case requiring you to perform fairly technical computer crime just to see one person's hole cards. If that person was not available to play against you would have to infiltrate the computers of other players... in other words a whole series of hacking crimes just to rob them of a few dollars at poker. If you were a sophisticated enough cyber criminal to do that I'm sure there would be better ways to make an illegal fortune and they wouldn't require paying someone to point them out!

The other reason is that the poker rooms are becoming very wealthy and have a huge vested interest in keeping their games pretty clean, so they are investing quite a lot of resources into stopping such chicanery. It's like mechanical attacks against roulette in a casino these days, you are up against quite sophisticated anti cheating technology and most people consider it too risky or difficult when there are other illegal ways of making money that are easier.
