The day's of 'stings' isn't over?
Nice try, they nearly pulled it off. On the High Seas Wagga R3. 2nd in a photo, thankfully for me.
Last 3 starts: 2nd last start~3000m, 3rd last start~2600m, 4th last start~2000m. Beaten by over 10 lengths each start. This start 1600m ISP $82 & a photo for 2nd! |

I won on Texan Son in this race - but at the finish line, it looked like the 'High Seas' horse won. But then came the protest, and it ended up third! It was a wild ride by that horse...

Pity.
It seems to have been well thought out too. |

Well 'High Seas' didn't pull it off, but 'Just Elle' just did. Paid at least $60 for the win...another win past the post it looked like, I had 'Alert Son' - it looked the winner, but the angle on tv is distorted...

Unless there is more to it that wasn't a sting - that was just a horse coming good on the day - apparently to everybody's surprise.
it had a BF SP odds >100 etc so no one was on it. it seems no-one would have been more shocked than the connections,. my understanding of a sting is when it opens at a big price and is backed to a fraction of that price and WINS. In fact as a horse owner i would get upset when a horse runs well at a big price because it indicates no one was on it ( in this case even for a place)- i say to the trainer - " surely it must have shown you something that it was ready to run well and we could have had a bit on it to help us pay your bill" JMO |

Sting v Plunge?
I think you're right Aussie. When I analysed that horse further, I realised it did have the form, that pointed to a potential Place.
As an aside, my use of the term 'Sting' was inappropriate. What is the difference between a 'Sting' and a 'Plunge'? As I see it a 'Sting' is when a bookmaker is conned by trickery or other illegal means so as to suffer a loss, like the famous movie. A 'Plunge' is when a longshot is heavily Backed into favouritism? |
