Hi Mad Gambler and welcome,

I will try to answer your question but i am no expert so beware.
The things i would look for are class, fitness, form, track conditions, distance. Then perhaps consider barrier position, jockey, trainer, strike rates, prize money and weight allocation and finally i would have a sqizz at the betting market to see what others think are the main chances but as i said i am no expert. I suppose you are looking for factors to support your selection but also looking for weaknesses that may tell you that another horse is better suited. All this info is in form guide so i guess it's what you decide to do with it.

Does that make any sense?
Best of luck

Exclamation just my thoughts

race 2 sydney - 2yold plate - not too keen on 2yolds as a general rule however here we have several 1st starters & 1st uppers, so this would be a race i would rule out immediately, but if i was forced i would firstly look at the class of the races of those who have had a few starts, & obviously the toppy raced well in good company last time in & is therefore weighted accordingly. of the rest there is plenty of consistency in lower grades, but the weights tell the tale here & i wouldnt be looking past the 2 or 3 if going outside the topweight.

race 5 sydney - a lowly 3yold class 6 on a saturday at randwick! (shame ajc, shame) - once again try to line up the classes of the previous starts, & in a very ordinary race such as this i would look for an improver with a couple runs under its belt. however the one that catches the eye is the 6, over from the brisbane & certainly down in grade here & if i could get good eachway odds i might consider it, but again this isnt a good race & i would only be betting here if i had won on the previous race

Question

Just curious. You say you were keen on those 2 races, but hadn't yet analysed the form....

Why did you single out those 2 races?
