![]() Certain races can become a strong 'form' race, but how easy to pick these days?
Courtesy of a mate of mine over east:- “The 3rd of April 02 at Ballarat - a lowly Class 2 race. The winner of that race, Cheam, subsequently won at Rosehill (15th June 02), the 4th placed horse - Name Dropper, won same day in Brisbane, whilst the 2nd placed runner in that Ballarat race – Another Trick, had won the previous Sat (8th June 02) at Flemington.” Three horses competing in a lowly class mid-week provincial all go on to win (within a couple of weeks of each other), in metro Saturday class races in three different states. Interesting to see what the 3rd placegetter at Ballarat (Regal Shark) has done or is doing. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2002-06-24 11:44 ] [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2002-06-24 11:45 ] [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2002-06-24 11:46 ] [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2002-06-24 11:47 ] |

![]() Well 3 out of 4 ain’t bad, perhaps Regal Shark is about to be unfolded as a stayer of the future  Seriously, is there anyone out there that has some system to dentify "form" races (apart from group1 etc), either before or after the event. Seems the time for race at Ballarat was quick for that course / distance / class. Perhaps this could have been a tell-tale factor?

![]() The time at Ballarat was ordinary - 84.1 secs for 1400m. Would need to be at least 1 sec faster to be any good - times in the east are a lot faster than WA.
Times can help as you say - especially if you see a fast time on a track that is not known for good times. Ignore fast times at Hawkesbury (I could run fast there), Wyong or tracks in northern NSW where it appears any old thing can run good times. The provincial/country tracks to look out for are: NSW Newcastle Cessnock And to lessor extent Kembla VIC Geelong Cranbourne Mornington Sale Bendigo Kyneton Qld Toowoomba If you see good times ran at these tracks, the form will often hold up in the city. Ballarat is moderate when it comes to times, however if it was a quick time then worth looking at. As a rough guide - add 0.5secs to times ran at Ballarat to compare with Flemington. However, for 1600m races there, you don't need to add any time for comparisons. [ This Message was edited by: chief on 2002-06-24 15:14 ] |
