Default Did you win yesterday?

I had a very good day at the races yesterday, as soon as i stepped off the bus at Randwick the rain stopped and i knew it was going to be good. First race in Adelaide got a tip on the #8, ran a great race and fought off two other horses to win by a nose paying $4.8.

Tipped a few winners and loser between the that and the Melbourne cup. So i get to the big race, having already put my money on at centrebet, I feel confident. I have $100 on Leica Falcon, who i got at $11 before the Caulfield Cup and $100 on Eye Popper who at $9.50 was huge overs imo.

Before I was really into horse racing, a mate from Adelaide used to give me tips for the big one, always outsiders and ones he was biased for but i went with them. 3 years ago he told me Jardines Lookout, for which i had $20 on for the place. I was extremely happy, so last year i take his tip again for On a Juene for a place, no luck there, but i wasnt going to complain as he got me a $15 place getter the year before. So this year he comes back to me with On a Juene again, this time im very skeptical as none gives her a chance again. After a good day on Saturday at the Derby Races, I decide to throw $50 on him for the place. Being at Randwick i had to watch the big screens and couldnt really see what was happening, i thought it was the falcon charging home on the outside like she had done in all her races. The numbers come up and On A Juene has run second, i was esstatic.

Straight away i put $100 each way on Sky Right in the next at Randwick (biggest bet i have ever had), Sky Right wins by about half a length and i win. I lost on the last two races at Randwick, but i could hardly complain. Had a good night afterwards too.

Just sharing my story, did anyone else have a good day?

Hi all,

I decided to take a few roughies and a couple of shorties in 5 horse box exactas

10 races x $20

And one horse in each race for $10 the win.

To placate the wife I told her to pick 3 horses in the cup and I'd pick 3 and we'll box them up for 2nd & 3rd with MD for 1st.

Six races gone, the only collect was for a late scratching in one exacta!

No more winning bets for me all day!

Our tri in the cup

1st - Makybe Diva
2nd - wifes picks - Portland S - Greys I - On a jeune

saw those and thought we had no chance and for some reason I picked - Leica falcon - Railings - Xcellent

Go the try - $4900.

Good day you'd think?

Nope, she wants to spend it on crap for the house.

I don't like Melbourne Cup day...... I reckon if you pick more one winner (if your lucky to even get one).... you are blessed.

Anyway, as expected I had a typical bad day winner-wise(check my Stix Tips post )...........I only bet at Flemington for the day and lost on all of except for two races....... And how sweet was the second winner.......

My theory about Melbourne Cup Day - based on my recollection of the day - therefore no form analysis/ratings/media tips etc etc are used - ......is that there is always an Adelaide horse (or has Adelaide form - not strong I know) that wins one of the lead up races to the CUP - and I'm open to scrutiny here, beacuse as I have said i haven't bothered proving the theory, sufice to say money in my pocket is the evidence I have.

So race 1 comes and I had a nice win on Follow the Till ($5.10)..... so basically my winning day has come and gone....Race 2 = No Cigar, Race 3 = No Cigar ...........Then along comes race 4 # 16 Vinter, I had already overlooked this horse in my analysis of the day as the guide had listed it as a resident of Flemington.... and I was careless enough not to look at its lead up runs.....

So here we are stitting the backyard, having the traditional MC BBQ and a mate's dad says he has backed Vinter periously in S.A.... to which my ears prick up and scurry for the form...... HOW STOOPID HAVE I BEEN........ fired up the net and as they say ............The rest is history
  • WIN $54.20 PLACE $13.70 ($20 / $20)
  • QN $362.2
  • EX $515.9
  • TRI $5,067.6 (36%)
  • 1ST4 $31,854.10 (4%)
  • OUTLAY $120
  • RETURN $5335
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY Days.........

Gday All

On cup day.. there were a few winners at reasonable prices.. nothing spectacular... In the cup... well how wrong could I be .. I liked Mr C... Pitched in at WFA I thought, in a handicap... had to run a strong race judging by it's non run at Geelong... ************ me it was gone at the top of the straight.. makes me think I was a bit harsh on ON A Juene's run at Geelong...so my bets for the Cup were I backed the 3 horses that I rated on top and I couldnt leave the Diva out.. ( I had her 4th)

5 Units the win Mr C well all know how that went... didnt he knock up easy

1 Unit E/W Railings Loved the CC run... I didnt see him in the run, I have seen the race once (live) but have read he should have finished closer so I dont know about the run

2 Units place Xcellent Thought the track got him Cox Plate.. great run, that is the sort of run that constantly sees him on top when rating a race (finally)

2 Units Win the Diva... I bet against her and left her alone in the plate and Man I paid for it... I wasn't gunna have her win and not at least be on... And anyone who loves racing couldnt help but clap her from the 400 (IMO)

So in the Cup there was a positive return of 12 Units.. a lttle bit better than even money... But as ever I reckon it is that hardest race to make money on in the whole year..

Chickaloo was a very nice earner in Adelaide.. but I can never ever catch Maybe McLaren... maybe one day

XPT I couldn't agree more or Maybe Mclaren I was sitting there trying to find a reason to back the horse but the more I looked at it I couldn't have her in the end I went with Gunner Tom and well yea guess where it finished.

I agree with all of the above, incl the Adelaide theory..... The trouble with Melb Cup day is that all that money slushing around in the win pools is oh so tempting..

Harry, enjoyed your story..good on you for getting the tri...shame you cant talk her in to the old "you gotta speculate to accumulate" way of thinking and re invest some of the spoils ...lol

Only bet in the big one. Put a $90 flexi on the Trifecta

Came up at 83.33%. He threw Xcellent in as like an afterthought (Found out later it was a tip from his boss). so $6477 later we were kicking ourselves for not putting on a first four too. We sure had Leica. Trying to get over missing a share of $74,000 now
