Question Resumers

Ballarat. Race 7. IT'S PICNIC
6yo resuming from a spell. Won C2 cran. 1200m. when resuming last prep., Villella 58kg.
Not out of a place in 7 runs last time in and missed a place only twice past 15 runs.
3kg claim for Hamilton will help in this harder $40,000-00 C6.
Should be good odds.

Thanks for the query.
Finished 8/14 beaten 4.7L. Stewards reported held up for some distance rounding the home turn.
Consistent last time in and could be worth following up.
The other 1st upper highlighted in my tips for Ballarat, Red Sphere, finished 2nd. behind, ironically, another 1st upper in Footy.

Hi there Imagele
I used to follow first uppers religiously at one stage and did quite well because of the overs. I think 2nd up and even 3rd up is ok as well as long as the previous preparation's form was ok and especially if they hadn't figured much in there runs back in the new preparation (a recent one that I'm still cranky about is Doonan Dancer who won 3rd up after 2 nothing runs 1 and 2 up). I remember a thing called How Fast ploughing through the mud down the straight six at over $100/1. That was in 1992 which makes me realise I am in the middle of a long drought as far as memorable winners are concerned (unlike hard luck stories). Unfortunately I don't seem to have the time to study these so closely nowadays. I'm putting some fairly weak-kneed predictions up on here again. I'm confident they will make a long term profit using my ratings method but I know that this method has some bad runs of outs and isn't for everybody. Incidentally, I remember Imagele as well. He was a Sostenuto I think. I remember that breed well - very temperamental.

G'day percentum
Thanks for your post.
Yes, Imagele was one of my favorite horses from times gone by. I think his mum was Cele's Image.
Another horse I was fond of from that era was Zambari.
Some 40yrs. back, I was in a pub (Wynyard tas.) one day when a well dressed gentleman asked me if I liked to have a bet.
He showed me a piece of paper with Zambari printed on it.
He told me in a matter of fact sort of way he had two around the world trips on the proceeds from his betting exploits.
Zambari duly won that day at odds of around 5/2. His 1st race start I think.
I never saw the said gentleman again.
I have been toying with the idea of starting a thread for those horses resuming, particularly those that have performed well when resuming before.
Being creatures of habit, they tend to repeat and that is where the value often lies.
I concentrate all my efforts on Victorian racing however and my selections would be from that area only.
One of my most recent collects was Lord Luson at around $21-00.
I think that where you support horses resuming from a spell, they can also be followed up for their next couple if they do not win 1st up, particularly, as you say, if they have not attracted attention by their 1st up runs.
Back in August I supported Sharipova when it resumed and followed up next start when it won at $24-00.
A few days back I highlighted Red Sphere resuming at Ballarat with prepost odds of around $15-00. It ran 2nd. and another 1st upper in the same race won at around $10-00.

Thought I'd pull this one out just to torture myself a bit.
Have been on the tail of this horse and included it in the last leg of the quadrella today.
Did I back it or take it for 1st in the exacta I had?
Almost, but no, the price turned me off.
The comment I made on my form sheet was as follows:
5 runs since res. Placed Pakenham country cup this dist. last prep. Light weight the key.
I've long held the opinion that it is not the racing game that beats punters, it's the punters that beat themselves.

don't feel bad mate, i was told Bairnsdale Cup day by the trainer himself Theodore that his aim is the Pakky Cup. So my theory was to follow him to the PC, but oh no, the 70-1 and no wet form turned me right off!

Thing is had it been 25-1, i would have had somthing on it!

I saw the horse and thought the name sounded good, but the jock was the one that put me off.

Last week I had stacks on him riding for DHayes in Adelaide and he was always riding the animals the wrong way.

He comes to Melbourne, rides for some other trainer and lands a 33/1 and the 50/1 Its Picknicker.

Curse my writing off jockeys.
