Doomben Races Saturday....
G'day all,
Pretty good days racing at Doomben tomorrow, with some nice sized fields. The 3yo race and the fillies and mares quality are the main interest for me, with some promising types engaged. Weather is great here in Brisbane, and although there was cloud-cover for most of the day, nothing much came of it. Race 1 - Like Seducation at eachway odds here. This is not a strong race at all, and this horse can go forward and take up a nice position. Heinrich is a quality trainer and Ballard is just coming back to race riding after an injury layoff. Lady Of Courage is a very consistent galloper but can find it tough to win in town. A place chance for sure. Moving North disappointed somewhat last time, but the grade was a lot stronger than this. Could win without surprising. Race 2 - Gee i like Unswerving here. Didn't get to see the race last time (for obvious reasons), but at her previous start she really hit the line like an above average one. With the extra ground here and the claim for the in-form apprentice, i think she can go close. Gold Edition is the best performed in the race and gets in OK on the weights, to my eye. The alley is great, and she won't be far off at the end. Silent Power dominated last time from the front and if there is little pressure up front, he could repeat the dose. He would need to improve significantly off the run, though. Race 3 - Well Sir Sensible will be stupid odds tomorrow, so i'll be steering clear. Marlene Gaye is a promising stayer, and although isn't as well performed as some of her opponents here, i think she can run a race at odds. The win 2 back at the Coast was an impressive run. Milady Clang has done nothing wrong of late (to my surprise ) so i'll include her here, although the weight is starting to creep up. Her win last time was enormous (beating subsequent town winner Classy Darcy). Dead Cat Bounce is getting fitter and hit the line OK last time. Will appreciate the 2100. Race 4 - Good race. As i have mentioned before, i really like Jay Dee Rocks. They have got him in a race with some ground (more than 1000 or 1200) which i think suits him. The inside alley and the claim for Mason should see him midfield and ready to run on in the straight. Lasting Luck has been around the mark of late and Cahill jumping on board tomorrow is a plus. Good chance. Shantreusse has been racing respectably down the Coast of late, and may run a race if left alone in front. Race 5 - Good sprint race. Boys Talk is my selection and i think he'll go mighty close. Didn't get the greatest run last time, so the 3 alley should see him positioned a touch closer and ready to pounce at the right end. This race is easier than the last 2 assignments too. Best Northern is a very fast horse (outpacing Babinda Half last time) and will put himself straight into the lead and will give them all something to catch. Gullcatcher is getting on in years, being 9 now, but he has always had ability and can sprint well tomorrow while on the fresh side. Race 6 - Love Babinda Half. The distance is obviously a doubt, along with the class rise, but his figures of late has been massive. If they leave him alone out in front (which i predict they will), he'll be mighty tough to run down. Minassi and Hard To Catch are my placing picks, and i'm finding it tough to separate them. Both are still on the improve and can figure in this sort of a race with a good run. Minassi was a sensational run last time after missing the kick and having to make an extended run from the 600. While Hard To Catch hasn't had the greatest luck in running recently and if given a cushy run, really attacks the line. Race 7 - Shysu should win. Wasn't at her peak last time and that showed - she didnt have her usual zip around the bend. With that run under her belt, i expect her to win (or go very close). Maxy Legs was a strong win at Doomben in good time and the 1200m looks good for her. She is a nice chance if there is pace on up front. Star Of Asia has the nice alley tomorrow and should use it by being closer to the speed. Colless will ensure she gets the perfect run. Good chance. Race 8 - Last race. Not a great one to finish on, but i don't mind Step Right In. Doomben obviously doesn't suit the horse as much at EF but he is a quality galloper and from the 3 alley shouldn't be far off them at the death. Tropical Express was a real eye-catcher at the Sunny Coast last time and will really appreciate the easier class. Fitter after 2 runs back aswell. Thebarefootbushman slaughtered a town field on a wet track a number of weeks back and could repeat the dose tomorrow if there is speed. The winner should come out of those 3. Good day tomorrow with my best being Unswerving, Babinda Half, Shysu with Jay Dee Rocks at a bit of odds. Good luck everyone Sven Last edited by Svenvlad : 10th February 2006 at 09:51 PM. |

Hi Sven...looks a good day in brissie...feel homesick every saturday..
I'm giving King Latarmiss a good chance today..didnt seem to do enough last week but nothing much did from the back,,,he should be super fit now...would love to be there to see what he looks like ..might get a glimpse on the screen,,,but he gets a good tempo and i dont think its a hard race for him....cahill will know the horse pretty good by now.. Giving Amiral Spy an e/w chance ...should be huge odds..but i like him at this distance..had an easy kill the other day with alot of weight that should give him alot of confidence...Baliey has Amex racing better than ever and is the danger again here... Agree with Sven ...Shysu will be hard to catch here ...not alot in this race that can pester her up front...Star of Asia the big danger swooping late...colless is to smart to give shysu to much of a lead.. Another value runner in the last...Stood up...did enough last run ..should be fitter ... going for a bit of value today.... (didnt work yesterday) but i'm hopefull today.. others i like around the place .Sydney:Shania Dane, Majestic feeling Melbourne.: Perpegilliam, Perlin, Adelaide: Miss Starnee, Identifiable Ascot: Wool Zone, Dakas Gem good luck all.. |

Thanks Slowman,
It was a good day today actually. Babinda Half saved me with his big win and Step Right In was a nice way to finish off. Every time Babinda Half puts in a good run, it just gets me thinking how good Starlactic must be (since Starlactic beat Babinda over 1000m recently). Oh well, time will tell i suppose... Sven |

that run by babinda half was unreal as everyone would have seen, the thing that makes it especially good is the time was only .3 or so of a sec outside of takeover targets (i think im just trying to remember). and its basically done the same thing (maybe not quite the same quality in fields though) :P
definitely one to watch though!! |
