hey sandgroper, i was wondering whether you thought that there would be a lot of speed in race 8 at Northam? Also is Rancher Vann (Race 8 no 2) front running, mid-field or a back-marker? Is Northam a specialists track? what do you think will be the odds of Rancher Vann? thanks again for everything.

Looks to be 5 or 6 horses who normally like to race on the pace in race 8, so would expect speed should be OK.

Rancher Vann tends to get back worse than midfield, although is 1st up after spell today, so could race with a bit more early zest. 1st up record is reasonable & did win a 1000m trial recently.

Northam’s straight is almost 500m long, so you would expect every horse has a chance to win, however I tend to think it is a specialist track, as it seems some horses do excel there and some don’t.

I think an open race, and apart from Rancher Vann, other main chances would include nos. 5, 14, 6, 9, 1 & 2.

I would be looking for 10/1 or better for Rancher Vann.

Tennesse Blue / Sandgroper,

Tanks me boyos, $13+ for the win and I got the quinella!

Tennesse Blue, you gave the tip, splendid! splendid!

Sandgroper's advice - 500m straight, lookin good fresh (trial winner) and suited by a predicted good pace - to me Rancher Vann sounded a good chance. Open race - took RV with the field in quinella - longshot ran 2nd! At 10/1 or better, was 20/1 when I placed a bet. Love it, when it all comes together like that.
