I have altered rule 3. Up more than 200m is obviously OK if the runner has won at the distance [+/- 25m as some tracks have weird distances like 2020m]. A runner can easily step up from 1200m to 1600m for example if it has previously won at 1600m.

The only selection to pass the odds and track condt. rules was:
Ascot R1/1 Dance To Heaven [unp]. Pity it was the only runner. |

Hi Feather,
Melb. was 'slow', That's the problem with pp odds. Not much help in the wet as they are all over the show and next to useless. Then there are the scratchings to stuff them up further. Your right about the system needing a bit of work. 3rd. or 4th start in might be worthwhile if I reduce the age to 5yrs. and add a distance rule that works with 3rd or 4th up. It all fits together in Handicapping terms. I've thrown in a bit of an early form clause for one of the 2 or 3 starts from a spell for good measure. Days since last start was designed to avoid large class jumps from country to city but on reflection the odds priceline rule takes care of that, so that rule is now changed. Obviously the system can be used any day of the week now so that is a bonus. ....................Newspaper and Coffee...................... 1) No Maidens, 2yr. olds, hurdles, stakes, cups, or group races. 2) 1100m to 1850m for C2 and up races only. 3) 3 to 5yr olds racing on a good track only. 4) No more than 100m down in distance or won at distance if up. 5) Pe-post on the first 3 betting lines only [newspaper or whatever]. 6) Must be the 3rd or 4th start in from a spell and won or placed in at least 1 of them. 7) Last start 16 days or less. 8) Must have won at the track or distance [+/- 50m]. 9) If more than 1 selection choose the lower TAB number. Cheers. Last edited by crash : 23rd April 2006 at 04:32 AM. |

For the revised system today and what would have been yesterday on the dry tracks [didn't check provincials]. I think a 1x4 ew would work best on this system.
Sunday 23rd Sunshine Coast R4/6 My Best Tycoon Wagga R5/1 He's Unique R7/14 Switch To Diamonds Sat. 22nd. Looking at Ascot, E/farm [no selections] Morphettville Morphettville R3/2 Fraaclase [w$4.50 p$1.60p] R4/1 Dollydeva [$1.90p] R5/1 Kolase [not sure if this one fitted the odds. Maybe not]. Ascot R1/1 Dance To Heaven [$2.80p] R7/8 Siesta Bay [$1.40p] R8/2 Cristobal [4th] |

I only had mr6-2 Sorry Crash, but I was speaking about myself there. Was trying to get my "thick head" around the rules. This is what I had, and how I came across them: mr6-2 5g,14day,cd,1200 today -1200 last start-2nd fav br4-4 5g, 7d, t, 1400-1300- 2nd fav br6-10 4m, 14d, t, 1200-1200 - favourite gc6-1 3f, 14d, d, 1200-1200- 2nd fav. So I picked the only one with the "c" serene prince |

New rules:
Sunshine Coast R4/6 My Best Tycoon [started 3rd fav. unp] Wagga R5/1 He's Unique [Fav. w$3.40 p$1.30] R7/14 Switch To Diamonds [SP $15 so not a selection] Old rules Taree r5-3 3g, 14d, d, 1000-1000,2nd fav [w$4.30 p$1.60] Dead track [must have been suited] Hobart r9-7 4g, 14d, tc, 1080-1080, 2nd fav [started fav. unp] The duel results here don't mean anything of course at this stage, but I have a couple of observations. Not quite the old rules [dead track a gamble without handicapping the selection for it] and the 7 or 14 days make no handicapping sense when applied to any other days besides Wed. or Sat. 16 days says 'fit and pulled up well last start' as does 7 or 14 but why not 8,9,10,11 etc to 16 days when the race day is a Sunday or any day besides Wed. or Sat.? You get my drift. Last edited by crash : 23rd April 2006 at 04:44 PM. |

Won at the track or distance rule has a few holes in it. Found a selection that had won at the distance but had 6 starts at the track for zilch. The vis-a-vis problem is also there [won at track but hopeless at distance]. Not hard to fix that rule. So that's a good place to tweak for anyone using this.
What I came up with for today from the system: Anzac day Ascot R6/3 Calico Blue (7) 55.03yo b f (Ms R Macphilomey at Geraldton) M R Forder [f $4 ] Eagle Farm R5/9 Solid As A Rock (1) 53.55yo b g (Gary Ball at Deagon) P [$9 -3rd line] Flemington R3/6 Lake Charlotte (USA) (1) 55.55yo b m (D L Freedman at Rye) L Nolen P [f $3] R8/7 Wings On Fire (NZ) (2) 54.56yo b m (M D Moroney at Flemington) G J Childs B [$8 3rd line] Ranwick-Kensington R7/4 St. Tevoc (1) 56.07yo br g (K A Lees at Broadmeadow) [f $3.50] R8/2 Ledger (3) 55.54yo b g (T J Robinson at Berry) Peter Wells (a 3.0) M [f $4.60] Swan Hill R8/7 Britain Drive (6) 53.55yo ch m (P A Preusker at Horsham) Ms H Mc Kechnie [a] [f $4.80] Victoria Park R7/2 Any Dane Now (3) 56.04yo b m (Aaron Purcell at Warrnambool) P [$6.50 3rd. line] PP odds used were from tabonline.
