New Hawkes Stable Rider
With the imminent departure of "the dazzler" Darren Beadman to the ultra-competitive cauldron of Hong Kong, it is probably an appropriate time to speculate which rider/riders will ascend to the lucrative position of No1 rider for the powerful Ingham/Hawkes racing empire.
I would like to nominate Michael Rodd as I believe he has matured as a very competent rider who may reach even further heights if all the resources of this "power" stable are made available to him. There is speculation around racing circles that the Ingham family, after closing their Brisbane operation are now scrutinizing the longterm financial viability of their Melbourne stable and infrastructure. If they downsized, or, heaven forbid, closed their Melbourne satellite stable it would deal a very painful blow to the racing industry in that state. Times have changed dramatically in the last decade as costs have spiralled and disasters such as the EI outbreak/scourge have the potential to bring thoroughbred racing to it's knees. However, we remain positive that all racing participants will clear this hurdle and move forward and prosper. Anyone have any ideas about who should be the newly annointed stable rider...if you do have a nomination of your own...please share your thoughts. In closing....could D. Nikolic be a prime contender? Cheers. |

G'day pharfromoz,
Apparently it is John Moore but I'd imagine that "Dazza" will find many other opportunities to ride freelance. Due to his undoubted ability and ultra-competitive nature I feel there is little doubt he will make a success of this venture....his second stint in HK. As far as the Ingham thoroughbred empire is concerned we will have to wait and see what happens when the J. Hawkes clan separate from them and J. Hawkes' trusted foreman takes control...anyone have any time-frame for this separation? We'll just have to monitor all press releases as matters unfold. Cheers. |

It may not be an issue with Warwick Farm "locked down" till further notice. With the Hawkes training establishment located at this venue nothing will be happening until the vaccination program commences tomorrow with the anticipated arrival of the vials from overseas.

I would also like to nominate the irrepressible Noel Callow as the perfect jockey to ride for the new Ingham establishment(in Darren's absence).
"King" Callow has taken Singapore by storm with his aggressive style of riding and he would be a welcome addition to the rather depleted senior jockey ranks in Sydney at the moment. He's cheeky and brash but could be just what Sydney needs as the industry attempts to recover from the EI scourge and seeks to recoup lost turnover with the assistance of this "media headliner". Cheers. |

With the news that Danny Nikolic is to be the top jockey/rider for the revamped Snowden/Ingham empire in Sydney does anyone have an opinion as to how this partnership will proceed into the future?
Danny has been riding for this establishment in Melbourne so it is no real surprise that he would be appointed to the top position in Sydney. To we New South Welshmen/women it appears to be a "southern invasion" as Danny will join other "mexicans" such as Nash Rawiller and Blake Shinn to try their luck in the competitive Sydney scene. Will someone please turn out the lights as the last of the Mexicans leave "bleak city" Danny, although always generating controversy should very quickly establish himself in the top echelon of "class" hoops in this city. NB. thank goodness that some of those riders with immense baggage have decided to vacate the Sydney scene...except of course "the dazzler" who is already in the Hall Of Fame and could reach even higher levels in his career. Cheers. |
