G'Day benny, well there's a list as long as yer arm, but it depends where your'e coming from really, but if you're in the lower end (price wise) then I can suggest the following:

(1) If your selections are quoted at less than 4-1 back at top Fluctuation, if 4-1 or more then back maxi - divi.

(2) That win should be in the last 4 starts

(3) Only back in races of less than 2000 metres

(4) I like a place record of 50% +

(5) Cut out all race for Fillies or Mares only, jumpers, Ladies only races , Apprentice races or Amatuer rider races.

(6) Consider betting on races of only 10 runners or less.

Good luck!

First 3 in pre-post Market is a strong one to use.

It also cuts down on the runs of outs which is a killer for most systems.

I guess we all have our favourite filters. How about:
-for 1400m + races, no more than 21 days since last run.
-all races, barrier no worse than 11.

Win percentage is a funny one. When you do your analysis, see if lower win % gives better value, especially in the more competitive races on the card - the last two or three races usually. Not sure why lower win % is a positive - perhaps lower win % horses got to this class with fewer close finishes, therefore less wear and tear on their bodies. Or perhaps they are closers, which get up less often, but are better value when they do.

Hope that makes some sense.

Hi Benny,

Some I would also consider are
  • Must lead or run handy to the pace (use Sportsman Chartform)
  • No F&M running against male horses
  • 4yo & 5yo only
  • No 1st or 2nd up horses
  • Average prizemoney in top 4 or 5
As Partypooper said the list is as long as yer arm!

Good luck in your endeavours!
