Question Best Odds

Hello
Where and how can i get the best price for place bets? A cousin has just shown me how to tweak the ratings he subscribes to. In most cases the second top becomes the pick. It boosts the ratings up to 83% S/R for place @ ave $2.70. He has 12 years records supporting this in this range. He has 6 to 15 bets Metro Sat and only place bets unless he is dead certain that the low divvy fav will win and then he will bet straight out. He get all his picks done Friday night. The win S/R is 50%. I would like to be able to place all bets before 10AM EST. I have an account with Ozbet WA and Sportingbet. I tried just place betting once before with Sportingbet but they declined. Which bookies give placebets? How can i lock in good odds early Saturday morning? Which TAB pays better? If I do bet with Sportingbet am I better with fixed odds or best tote or best fluc? What is the difference?
Regards Beton

Beton, just my humble opinion, Lux Bet gives Best of Best for MR and SR, i.e. Top Fluc or best tote whichever is higher, So if you are betting for the win at MRorSR go for that. Otherwise Sportsbet pays best tote/SP for the win and Best tote for the place Metro only, and best of NSW/Supertab country meets.

Also Betezy pays best tote for the win all races all days, so you need an account with all and only bet where you may have an advantage.

There is a new mob on the scene i.e. WWW.BESTAR.COM.AU who assure me they will pay best tote/sp for the win AND place (i.e. 1/4 sp or best tote divi whichever is greatest) if that's true it's the best place only deal that I've heard of apart from Betfair (if you can get your head around it?)

Default Best Odds

Thanks Partypooper. I pulled up betstar site I will contact them via phone on Mon to clarify if place only will apply. In the past I bet mainly win with a few eachway. Place betting is new to me. This should work okay each way. My cousin puts it this way. "ratings are to find the winner, sometimes the winner places but most times they are there or out of it. The placing horses are always going to place." Today was 7 out of 8. My cousin works all week, his missus gets his pay. Friday she gives him $20 Saturday he lives in the TAB. His takeout is his booze for the week. He is happy showing his mates that he can pick them. He has records of every horse he ever backed or even considered. $100 on each of his selections would double his wage. Some of the selections today I baulked at $1.20/1.40 is hard to handle. But $2.20 and $3.20 are good. Beltrious and O'Lonhro (the only loss) I backed straight out.
Thanks again
Wally

83% place SR with an av div of $2.70

That works out at 129.5% POT for place betting at level stakes.
Where most place punters are lucky to make 2% on turnover.
Because the SR for this price range statistically is approx 37%

That would have to make him the most successful punter known to man.
In this case , unknown to man .

The man is a genius.

beton,
I was going to post something yesterday similar to what Bhagwan has posted but decided against it as I don't really like to knock anybody, BUT seriously if the figures you have posted are correct AND there are 12 years of results to back it up then your cousin is the greatest punter ever known to mankind.

You say he works for a living and his cheese and kisses gives him $20 a week to punt with, when he has this incredible record.

I tell you what, and this is a VERY serious offer, IF your cousin can give me proof of his success over those 12 years I will very happily put up a $20,000 bank and your cousin and I will go halves in the profit.

HE can continue to work if he wants to but I think he can tell his cheese and kisses what to do with the $20.

I await your early reply so we can get this venture underway.

I asked for positive help to avoid $1.2o and less divvies from Ozbet. The calibre of the first post is what I expected. If I can not say something good then I will not say it. I will monitor this system myself over the next three months and then update. At that time i will offer him your offer Peterpan. Regards Beton

Either he's having a lend of you, or has confused the win divvy with the place divvy.
120% Place POT over 12 years is statistically impossible to achieve even with just 5 bets a week.
Even with a starting bank of his first $20.00, he would be the richest man in the world after 12 years.

I'm not trying to be negative, but most definitely wires are crossed somewhere, it is possible that his ROI is 120%, but no way can his POT be 120%.

If the figures are correct, then it's highly likely that he is using a loss chasing strategy and has just been lucky that his largest bet landed. I would urge caution if that's the case, as he's not giving you the whole picture.

The only possible way is if he is using some accumulator place method, and reporting the odds of groups of place bets, rather than the individual - which is highly misleading.

Beton, yes well, my reply was posted in good faith trying to direct you to the best place to bet under certain conditions. I think Chrome is possibly correct when he says there is some wires crossed somewhere, as those figures you quoted were like,..... Millionaire stuff really!

Just to give you an example I have operated a place plan for more than 5 years, it has been tweaked several times along the way so it performs a bit better now than it did in the beginning, and my end figure overall is 4.02% POT and that's with 80%+ S/R (place only ) and getting the BEST odds possible (depending where the nags are running etc) I'm not saying that's the best anyone can do (it's definitly the best I can do)

I don't pay for ratings so it may well be that I could improve things if I did, I would gladly pay if I could see any evindence up front that they perform significantly better than my own picks.

Firstly there are some, not many, win divvies in there that are from when the the place divvy is to small and he feels that the horse will definately win. The small divvy was the basis of the post. What is the best way to get the best divvy without being at the mercy of Ozbet? Only Partypooper offered a solution and I thank him. I will run with this eachway with Sportingbet either fixed or best tote (undecided yet) and post the result. Regards Beton

I have sufficiently found the answer posed. By going to the Jan 2010 newsletter here and going to Punt To Win best odds for well bet winners - bookmaker or tote and then looking at the weekly results you can see the following. For less than $5.50 odds there is a clear advantage betting Top Fluc over tote (Super tab only) and also a clear advantage betting Top Fluc over the SP price. There are questions as to how Best Tote would fare, and the source and method of the selections. I wonder if at >$5.50 Best Tote may start to shine.
I will monitor this with Sportingbet (i already have a credit account with them) eachway top Fluc.
Regards Beton
