Default Cox Plate 2010

Building to be the match race of the spring. Im on the mares side, but talking from my pocket (got a ticket on her at $51) and I am a massive fan of SYT as well as I backed him at over $60 last year.

Looking back at last week at Caulfield.

I thought the performances of both were a little deceiving. Both were first class obviously but after getting home from Melbourne and assesing the races I dare say her run was alot better than I first thought. He won ultra impressively, albeit the tone of the day. She possibly won from the furtherest position back on the turn and wider out than any other runner all day carrying the most weight (compared with the field she was against).

I honestly dont think there is as much difference between the two as currently being offered with bookies and she will be getting 2kgs off him.

Now who else?

Whobetgotyou - not on last weeks performace.

Zipping - Flogged Descarado 2 weeks ago, that form looks ok today.

Shoot Out - Form is solid, beat descarado in the AJC derby last prep (more joyous also beat descarado by 6l 2 starts back) Needs to improve about 5lengths on last MV performance to place I think.

Linton - Only other horse who won from off the speed last week, Melbourne cup looks much more appealing.

Trusting - More joyous beat him without hitting 2nd gear 2 starts back.

Captain Sonador - Backed him in the epsom, More Joyous wasnt there...

Avienus - Vowed to back this horse next start after last week. Did make ground on the best part of the track. Will win a good race this spring but not sure this is it.

Allez Wonder - Bart Scares me...

Wall Street - Oh no bro, your beached ezz

Luen Yat Forever - good run last week at big odds, could be a smokey for multis.

Everything in my eyes points to a match race between the two new superstars of the era and I can't wait to see which one comes out on top!

Cox Plate combatants So You Think and More Joyous both made the trip to Moonee Valley on Thursday for a special workout.

For the Toorak Handicap winner More Joyous, it was her first look at the track where in 10 days she will face her biggest challenge against So You Think in the weight-for-age championship of Australia in the Cox Plate.

Respected Melbourne clocker Warren Huntly said the Gai Waterhouse-trained mare had “come through Saturday’s win in great shape” and he was impressed with the way she handled Moonee Valley.

“Moonee Valley appears to hold no fears for her,” Huntly said. “She worked strongly, built in her work from the 1200 metres and hit the line well.

“She ran her last 400 metres in just under 24 seconds.”

Huntly said So You Think has come through his demolition of rivals in the Yalumba in fine order and the horse blew out the cobwebs with an easy gallop.

“He had what I would call a maintenance gallop,” he said. “He cruised home the final 400 metres in 25.5 seconds under his own steam and it goes without saying he looked terrific.”
So You Think remains a dominant Cox Plate favourite at $1.70 with More Joyous a clear second elect at $7.50 at Luxbet and they are the only two runners in single figures in betting.

HW I gotta say i will be as shocked as anyone in australia if More Joyous gets anywhere near So You Think next week. I was lucky enough to get on So You Think in the early Plate markets and get $12 as I knew if he came back in good order then he would be nowhere near those odds.

As far as I was concerned More Joyous had to smash that field last week to be a chance in this race and whilst she won well she certainly didn't do it comfortably. They would be lucky to be D graders last time these guys are A grade top of the class So You Think might be the best horse I have seen with the perfect jockey on board to suit him, no longer does he reef and tear like he did with that cowboy Boss on top he now settles in his races perfectly and Arnold really seems to have found the ticket to this bloke he is built like a bull with a motor like a ferrari.

I know alot of people have jumped off Shoot Out and whilst it is hard to see him winning I doubt he isn't in the placings unless they absolutely walk which won't suit him one iota but probably would help More Joyous.

Regardless of the tempo I think So You Think wins eased down and if there is a solid tempo Shoot Out runs 2nd and it wouldn't shock me if the quinella the cup a week and a half later to go with that.

I understand what you are saying about the field she beat last week, but I thought she did do it comfortably, watching the replays she is hardly ridden out hard to the line and as I said she did it where not many others were doing anything last week. Im hoping more than thinking she can beat him but I hardly feel the the market is a true reflection on the gap between them. She has the ability to set a pretty good tempo and quicken off that just like him. Obviously the question mark will be if she can do it over 2040m.

6 more days we will know.

Oh and as for shoot out I forgot about his last run at Flemington, I was thinking of his last race at the Valley.
