![]() Would love to have one so I could just input records. I figure no more than 3 months, maybe 6 worth of races. Form has a habit of turning to dust longer than that, I think. Then I could pump in the horses and see what they may have been up to with each other over the recent past. I have my own records. I just have no clue how to set up.
Sometimes I think the stats from places like Everyrace are very accurate, and other times not. If I had some kind of head to head database lookup I could work out how much guesswork goes into the ratings that I'm reading. Some races, especially Listed ones have horses coming from all over the place and few have raced each other. Not always easy to know this. I read a couple of how to's here. I'm a whiz with excel (in my own way). But Access is a mystery to me. And I'm too old to learn the language. Th racingandsports site has a nice little one but its a bit time consuming and only does four horses at a time. Take forever to do a meeting, I think. If anyone has any ideas, would love to hear them. |

![]() Oh, and I should say I already know what I want. I want a database that I can load about 6 months of 10 columns of data into with the horse and particular race included. Weight, finishing position, odds, etc.
Then I want to be able to put in the horses and see who has raced who before I think there is enough info there to make make an undeducated stab at the race. I have the excel files. I just don't know what to do next. |

![]() Wha tyou want to do might be ablke to be done in excel (i haven't tried) but is much easier if the data is stored in a proper database. Maybe look at importing your excel data in a database and learn to use sql to interegate it.

![]() As Wesmip says, this is a job for a database, and you'll need to code a routine to extract the relevant data.
Another way to do it (possibly less work in the long run?) would be to have a script to automagically download the pages from racingandsports and extract the data from the html. Python (http://www.python.org) is brilliant for this sort of thing. Cheers |
