Help with Crown Oaks Selection
I've made it through to the final 269 in the last man standing spring tipping comp and need to make a selection for the Crown Oaks.
Does anyone have any strong opinion on this race ? I have to admit I have done little research yet but who normally wins this race historically ? The horse I did like was scratched. Or is there a horse you really like and why ? My early thoughts are dowager Queen or Mosheen. But I also think Gliding and Raheel have a chance. I don't like Newitt as a jockey so I have semi-ruled out Vittoria but it is up there in the odds. Thanks for any help provided. |

So after a bit of research I am down to the 4 original chances I came up with.
Dowager Queen Mosheen Gliding Raheel As this is their first run at 2500m its all a bit of guesswork. If we look as past form Mosheen has beaten Rahveel 3 from 3 races (1600m or less) Rahveel has beaten gliding 2 from 2 races Both Gliding and Dowager Queen have beaten each other once. Looking at that it would suggest Mosheen is the horse to back but she has never ran further then 1600m and a step up of 900m is a very big step up in distance. At least the others are coming off a 2000m run and are only stepping up 500m. At least I have a 25% chance of picking the right horse. I'll watch the videos today and see if anyone catches my eye in their previous runs. |

Im surprised by no responses.
Anyway after watching the replays I don't think Rahveel can run out the trip. Seemed to struggle at the end of that race. Dowager queens tactics were all wrong last race and I doubt it will sit at the back of the field again. Mosheen ran into a strong head wind which may have taken more out of her then appears. It looks like she ran a very good race though. Gliding was an eye catcher though, it got checked off heels near the turn and had to regain all of its momentum. So that puts me on 2-3 possibles which are Gliding, Mosheen and possibly Dowager Queen. So do I go with the Class Horse which is Mosheen or with the horse that should have run a convincing 2nd last start (Gliding), or the fav in the market which is Dowager queen. Anyone want to help out here ? |

Mosheen is the best filly in the race, but I think this race could of been an after thought with no atlantic jewel. 1600 up to 2500 is not ideal. I couldnt have her, cold win on class though.
I think the winner is most likely to come out of the wakeful stakes, Rahveel and dowager queen are the two for me. Both of them ran right through the line line on saturday. Mosheen to jump out and lead with no pace in the race Ollie with slide across from 11 no probs and outstay the fav. I have Rahveel on top from dowager queen even though DQ was taking ground off rahveel on saturday, It should have- it had an easier run. Gliding a chance, will go forward with no pace on and I will include flame of lanka as a roughie, looks like a good staying type. Not a race to go nuts on.. Good luck! |

Just for your interest I went with Mosheen.
I havent seen the race yet but have seen the result. There are now 35 people left in the tipping comp. Any advice on the Emerates Stakes winner now ? I effetively have a $1500 bet on the race now. (50K/35 entrants). I liked Jimmy Choux earlier in the spring and think I'll stick with it but I am yet to do the form. |
