As some may recall I'm involved in the financial planning industry and so regularly read a few stock forums etc that are similar to this. One of the threads i've taken interest in elsewhere was with regards to a very successful trader who doesn't trade much anymore offering assistance to someone that reached out to him in a mentor type role. They communicate regularly by email, sometimes the mentor shows the apprentice trades he likes that have set up, other times the apprentice shows the mentor trades he likes and they discuss the setups, duration, stops etc etc.

Aaaaaanyhow it got me thinking, this may be a longshot but are there any of our resident pros here that regularly make a dollar on the horses willing to be a kind of 'mentor' to me? I'm not asking for their own holy grail, but more of someone to bounce ideas with and give me some direction. Who knows I may even come up with some idea they hadn't think of and we bouth come out winners.

I know its a longshot but I figure its worth asking as I've got nothing to lose by doing so. If anyone is interested and wants to keep it private i'd appreciate an email to jbevans at internode.on.net and if nobody is interested then thats fine too just figured i'd ask.

Also on a side note CP could you please email me if you read this, one of the added bonus's of being in your 20's and enjoying a drink means my 'day after drinking' change container is full to the brim and i'm thinking of using the money to purchase your database/program.

First of all, it takes courage to ask to be mentored in this racing game.
I had similar advice from a person who solely lived off the punt.
I asked the same question...the answer was not handed out on a platter.

The first suggestion was to go to the race meetings for 2 years and do not put on a single bet. Observe and take certain notes.

Due to my personal circumstances at the time this was not always convenient, and he stopped suggesting the next thing until I completed my 2 year stint.
Have since lost contact.

If I was to mentor, all I can say is do a 2 year stint, observe and take certain notes.

"Reverse Engineering" as in why are the prices that price and why do they change when they change. And why the pre-post is one price and the openers are another price and what makes those prices change.
What is the "best" pre-post prices to follow will become your personal choice. But I stick to one source and compare with others occasionally.

From there you may or may not "get it", that is entirely up to you.

If you ever hit a "mental brick wall" and wish you had a hammer to smash all your systems, and you don't at the last minute...good.
I hope you smash the delusion instead and have faith in your punting method/s.

And that is as far as I can take anyone, because by then, ( it's a journey) ya be on ya own feet as far as making race selections within a percentage of profit, and will know if it's right for you.

Not sure if i could be a "mentor" type figure, but happy to share some things ive learnt over 20 years(probably doesn't mean much chasing the grail), anyhow, i believe that you still dont stop learning after 50 years at it, no matter what game your in.
