Hi
Would someone kindly give me some info on the two Aussie sprinters Choisir and Belle du Jour running in the grade 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes over 6f at Ascot saturday.
Choisir won the grade 2 5f sprint here on tuesday making all the running. He's running over the 6f saturday.
Belle du Jour has raced twice in Ireland without success but is trained by the crafrt Dermot Weld and he just might be holding back with this one.Belle is a 25/1 shot!
Any replies appreciated ty.

G'day davyork.

Choisir's recent win in the King's Stand Stakes came as no surprise to a lot of Aussie punters. He has been placed over a mile so step up to the 1200m won't be a hurdle. Normally consistant when he finds form. As for Belle du Jour, on equal weights would rate her within a length of Choisir. Likes the 1200m and sounds like she is running into form. I have already backed both, and I'm looking forward to the race.

Thanks for the reply.
Both Aussies are drawn high on the far rail which in the past has been a disadvantage but this year the trend has been broken with a couple of sprint winners coming from the far side of the track.
Airwave is a classy filly. She beat Russian Rhythm as a two year old ocer 1200m,who has gone on to be a superb miler and won two grade 1s out of two.Airwave decided to stay to sprint distances and obliged first time out over 1000m in a canter after missing the break badly by 5 lengths. She usually misses the break so expect her to do the same today and have to weave her way through traffic.
I've laid Airwave at 1/1 at http://www.betfair.com and will back her "in running" when she has missed the break hopefully at around 2/1+,to give me a profit win or lose.
Thanks again and good luck.Choisir's win is good for international racing.Geeeez they beat us at soccer..now it's Ascot lol.

There's an interesting developement in the Jubilee Stakes.
Six horses have scratched from the race owing to firm ground, leaving 17 runners. That means the two Aussies will be drawn nearer the centre of the track as opposed to nearer the far rail.Choisir's Jockey will have to make a decision,"whether to track over from the centre of the track to the far rail or stands side rail" .If he tracks over to the stands rail(the low drawn side) then he'll have to be someting special to win.
The feeling is that nearly every horse will make for the stands rail. That means if Airwave is slowly away she'll be trapped behind a real wall of horses and nowhere to go,having to thread her way through every door hoping it's not slammed in her face.

Hope you had a decent bet!

Choisir made all to win by 1/2 length from Airwave.
Choisir ran down the centre of the track and gradually made his way to the stands rail.Airwave came to challenge but just wasn't good enough.
Belle du Jour never showed.

Yes well done Choisir and to Paul and Shannon Perry on bringing a horse halfway across the world and win a Group2 and Group1 sprint race, magnificent effort.
Got 7/1 about Choisir on betfair and 47/1 for him in the Kings Stand race and put half of that win on this race, nice tidy profit made.

Cheers.

Thanks for the thread and your input davyork.

Winners are grinners

On the subject of winners, great win by England last night beating the Wallabies. Now likely to start fav in World Cup after also beating the All Blacks in NZ.

There's talk of Choisir going for the Darley July Cup over 1200m at Newmarket in early july. The track at Ascot was firm, which is most unusual and records were set.Choisir's course record was beaten in the very next race at the 1200m distance.
The July Cup may be run on more yielding ground at Newmarket with an uphill finish.Airwave has bags of speed but couldn't muster the knockout punch against Choisir over 1200m.I'd fancy Airwave to get closer over 1000m on a fast firm track but apart from getting those conditions I'd go for Choisir every time.I can't see a danger to Choisir in the July Cup unless one of the doubtful Milers steps back in trip, maybe Intercontinental,a three year old French filly but she may stay in France.
It's great news for England to beat you lot at Rugby.Well you beat us
at soccer....I'm still crying.
