Rough Habit
For those old enough to remember.
Racing Queensland is saddened to learn of the passing of champion New Zealand galloper Rough Habit. A hero among Queensland racing fans, Rough Habit won six Group 1 races in the sunshine state, beginning with the 1990 Queensland Derby. But it was back-to-back Doomben Cup-Stradbroke Handicap doubles in 1991 and 1992 for which he will be best remembered, particularly the 1992 Stradbroke where he weaved his way through the field to etch his name in Queensland sporting folklore. Racing Queensland CEO Darren Condon said Rough Habit will forever be remembered by Queensland fans as one of the best horses to race in the state. “There wouldn’t be too many Queenslanders who wouldn’t remember Rough Habit’s 1992 Stradbroke win. It was one of those moments you witness at a race track that you will never forget,” Mr Condon said. “Very few horses have captured the hearts of Queenslanders like Rough Habit did and we are truly saddened by his loss.” No doubt loved and cared for in his old age which brings no comment from the do-gooders who hate racing. |
