Don't know about you guys but Oaks Day is really becoming fairly average from a racing perspective.
Apart from the Oaks and the Emirates, the rest of the races are jam packed with average horses that are nowhere near good enough to compete regularly at a high city class level. From a punting perspective, it is becoming increasingly more treacherous every year and as a spectacle the day is really very average except for the two main races. I'm not writing this because I didn't pick a winner today, I tipped Carnegie Pops at $40.1 and picked up the quaddie. What they could possibly do is perhaps take away a mares race or that ordinary Class 6 race and maybe replace it with a two year olds race with decent prizemoney or a sprint race for three year olds. I know Oaks Day is more a fashions day but the standard of races definitely needs a revamp. The Oaks doesn't nearly command the same respect as The Derby which is evident with the prizemoney on offer and perhaps might one day become just as interesting as the Sandown Classic. But don't get me started on that race!!! I would be interested to hear your points of view and ideas as to what they could do with this race meeting for the future if you share the same points that I do. Fishbones |

Hi Fish,
can't comment on the racing, but Oaks day was a very good day from a punting point of view... Yunkingcole in the last at Mildura was the cream on the pudding as well.....     Cheers, Chris. |
