stakes and plates

Can anyone enlighten me on the differences between stake and plate races. Better still, has anyone a site ref for me .

Stake races and plate races are basically forms of non-handicap races, mostly at either set weights (2YO/3YO) or weight-for-age (3YO+/4YO+).
