Tipping Comp idea???
Okay, how about this for a suggestion? I think it will be interesting and a lot of fun, and thanks to Kiwi for sort of giving me the idea for this.
The current Tipping Comp as it is, is getting a tad stale. Time for a change. I suggest from now on for our tipping comp, we all use the AAP Racingandsports Daily Challenge. I think it will be great fun. For those that don't know, the Daily Challenge requires you to tip one horse in each race at up to 4 different venues and you are then awarded points based on wins, placings, prices and dividends. Read about the Daily Challenge: http://www.aapracingandsports.com.a...nge/aboutDC.asp Go here to register: http://www.aapracingandsports.com.a.../registerme.asp Anyway, this is how it would work. Every Saturday, we would all put in our tips for the 4 meetings on the AAP Racingandsports site. (You have to have your selections in by 11:59 AM) We could also post those selections on here I guess. Then at the end of the day, people would post how they went. We would tally up the scores for each Saturday during the month to get our monthly tipping comp winner. So what do you think? I reckon it would be very interesting and more like a regular tipping comp. Also less work for me. Last edited by Sportz : 30th March 2005 at 09:51 AM. |

Ok sure, you can't be expected to keep looking after us forever Sportz that is fair enough.
I've done a similiar thing with mates a few times - e.g instead of actually betting everyone throws in a certain denomination backs a horse every race and gets scored 3-2-1 for 1st 2nd 3rd. My question is, and its probably on the site somewhere but I'm too lazy, how exactly are you advantaged if you pick say a 33-1 shot compared to an odds on favourite. Because i remember getting ********ed off when everybody just kept backing the favourites when i used to play that game. |

"You simply select one horse per race - then points are assigned based on the finish position (you only get points for 1st, 2nd or 3rd) and the price of your selection - bonus race events give you additional points based on the TAB odds of your horse."

The best thing about it is that the website gives you a constant update throughout the day of how you're going. For instance, I can look at it right now it tells me that today I've so far had 6 wins and 5 other placings from 16 races, a 21% POT for the Win, 7% POT for the place and I'm sitting in 7th place overall.

It's a good idea, however it does encourage selecting favourites, because odds are only considered in bonus races.

How about this for an idea. It's simple and easy, just needs someone to run it.
Saturday's and pubic holidays, select between 1 and 10 horses, anywhere that NSW tab is betting on except New Zealand (anywhere in Australia that NSW tab is betting on), you get a theoretical $1 on each, for the win. Bet wins, your score goes up by the dividend, bet loses, your score goes down by $1. There. It's simple, and it's easy, and it has a number of advantages. 1 - You can pick faves or roughies. 2 - The comp doesn't go skewiff is someone bags too big a winner, because you get ten selections if you should want that many to catch them up again. 3 - There's no disadvantage to only picking say 1 horse, because a losing bet registers as a -$1 anyway. 4 - Versatility as to which races you target, completely up to you. 5 - If you have to miss a meeting, it's OK as you're score just remains the same, and as scores aren't constantly increasing then remaining the same is OK. (Though a rule may be needed that only once a month can you skip a meeting). Thoughts, peoples? |

Don't necessarily have to use the points table on the Daily Challenge site to decide on the winner. They also keep track of your P.O.T for both win and place, and those DO take into account odds for each selection. |
