Where can I get easily accessible data on old race results? I'm hoping to research a few selection and staking methods and trial them on paper but need old data for it. I am collecting results from week to week, of course, but a bigger sample would be good. Where do people in this forum get all their stats from?

I'm surprised there isn't an official publication that lists all official results and prices etc.

I just tried getting back issues of Australian Sportsman, too. Gary Hickson from the Sportsman said they didn't have facilities for back issues and recommended I try the State or National libraries. Isn't there an easier way?

The WA racing site is fantastic! Pity we don't enjoy such comprehensive on-line data over here in the eastern states.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Hermes

NSWTAB site - has historical results.

I have about 40 old Best Bets form guides. Not sure if it has all the info you want though. I bought them mostly for major race days - so there are some past Cox plates, Melb Cups, Caulfield Cups, Doncasters etc...
Email me if you are interested.

Surely RSB or some supplier should keep back issues, and the Sportsman could make a fortune from uploading (from disk) previous issues of their formguides onto an online database. These people are losing a goldmine!
It would cost them hardly anything, probably 2 hours a week to upload the info once the initial setup were there. I'm sure people would pay a small subscription fee.

See link http://www.racingvictoria.net.au/publictn/RRandST.htm
- the Australian Race Results. Does not come cheap - $247.50, and not in electronic form.

1,000 people buying 12 mths of past weekend form guides at $100 each - that's $100,000 revenue. Apart from set-up costs of say $20,000, ongoing costs would be low.
Imagine if 10,000 people bought them - now you're looking at $1m revenue - not bad for such a simple idea.

Maybe someone should write to the Sportsman and suggest this.

There are certainly plenty of places to get past results from, but nowhere could i find racebook form for old meetings, and that's what's needed, racebookform / fields not just results.

Yes you can, but unfortunately at $11.00 per issue I think that would put most people out of the market, just for a research tool. Would be O.K. if you wanted one meeting in particular.
