Smile Class rating in the Sportsman

Anyone using the Sportsman?

I bought the Sportsman on Saturday, wanted to check something out.

The class change in the chartform caught my eye.
race 2 at Caulfield

I rated the class of the last race of Bel Shoes at Sandown $30k Open FM as 94.08 points, and yesterday's race at Caulfield $75K Open as 128.8 points, yet the Sportsman indicated as "SAME" class?

I wonder if my class rating is off, or was it a mistake in the paper?

Did not check any other races.

Incidentally, I thought the price of the paper, if there is a midweek edition as well, while not too bad, does not compare well with the price of a database update.

I pay less than half that for a years update, and it's always ready at hand.

Good luck

Cool

Beneficial 'class' ratings?

Flemington: Only a dead 4 but still a bookies benefit. There were more 'class' bandits running around than you could poke a stick at.

r1 ORBITING BELLE 11.20
r2 BERTONIC 12.80
r3 ROSE SYRAH 7.40
r4 LEICA LARRIKIN 47.30 [a maiden in a $100k race]
r5 FIGURE OF SPEECH 28.20
r6 GOLD SALUTE 10.90
r7 GRAN SASSO 2.70 [wacko, finally a top rating favorite home]
r8 PACINO 4.70 [wacko again, we are all getting rich, up there in the ratings]

I top rating home in 8 races. Order the Roller now!

Class ratings are a total waste of time [regardless of source] in my book. They are a stupid way of influencing the selection of winning horses [only in MHO though]. Does the race suit? Does the pace suit? Does the barrier, conditions and distance really suit? Should the horse even be in the race at this time? Class rating will not tell anybody those 3 simple things as the Flemington results show.

I think I figured out the way they do it, it involves change of weight as well.

If class rating is a waste of time or not, it probably comes down to the way you do your handicapping?

I certainly wouldn't use it on its own that's for sure.

Cheers

Get out of class ratings, as they are absolutely meaningless in the scheme of things.

Smile

Yeah .Class ratings are a real challenge although I do trust the zipform handicapper to get it right ( on faith alone)
Unfortunately The paper hasn,t really caught up with the WIZARD re Field Strength ratings.

Cheers.
