I am glad I wasn't on Queen of the Hill.. For a top rider, the ride provided by the jockey was nothing short of pathetic.. How do u get locked up like that in a 5 horse field in a straight race is beyond me... A I said I am not talking from my kick.. but I think those who took the shorts would be filthy,a nd rightly so... the best of good things beaten by a dreadful ride

Agreed it was very nasty...even though the gap finally opened down the closing straight he had already taken Queen down the outside to try and claw back which he almost did...

XPT - it IS a part of racing. NOT accepting that bad rides WILL happen to you is to be naive.

Nah you are missing the point... this bloke is supposed to be one of the best and dished up rubbish like that... a 4kg claiming apprentice makes mistakes like that and you do accept it.. you take the risk by backing a kid.. this bloke is one of the best (allegedly) and you expect far better after you have put on your hard earned.... and the ride was rubbish.. I dont know what you do for a living but If I performed in my job the way that bloke did in his, I would be looking for a new job the next day...

AS I said earlier.. I feel for the poor ************s who backed the horse... ( I DID NOT, so the ride did not affect me) have a look through the archives here and tell me where I have had a dip at a jockey... U will be flat out finding too many examples. The ride was substandard and punters should be protected from rides like that.. ( from allegedly top riders) if they aren't then they have the right to say something was substandard... without being called naive...To say I am naive is not only insulting it is laughable...

Cool

Don't see too many accolades for the same jockeys brilliant ride to win the Derby!!!!Jockeys are only human and are prone to make mistakes as we all are,the only difference being that jockeys only have a split second to decide between right and wrong!!As for Queen of the Hill being a certainty beaten,I dont agree.Run the race again and Jetspur will beat her again.IMO she had her chance, and you guys are giving Jetspur and one J.O'shea no credit at all for a great performance!John was born and bred up here in my area of Nth.Qld,I have met him personally and can tell you he is a great bloke and a great trainer as well.He doesn't take many horses to Melbourne, and I had a good win on the horsae because I knew he had set it for the race.So please, give some credit where credit is due!!!

P.S.

Have a read of the regular feature on this site by Neil about backing favs in small fields!

Yeah, anybody that backed a short priced favourite in a 5 horse field got what they deserved. Personally, I never even contemplated betting on the race. As far as I was concerned, there was only one thing I was pretty sure about and that was that number 5 would finish last.

Gday jonron...

we are going to have to agree to disagree on whether or not QOTH was a good thing beaten.. I say she was u say she wasn't *shrug* life goes on..
She seemed to be taking ground from the winner once she got out tho..

As for John O"Shea... Do a bit of digging old mate... I started a thread, which I haven't updated for ages where I identified 4 trainers that I consider to be the best of the best... trainers with relatively small teams, that consistently turn out winners.. They were Craig Martin, Mark Mason , Joe Pride and JOHN O'SHEA... You will make money backing these blokes..I am a huge fan... and I will let you in on a secret... I backed Jetspur at the small odds on Saturday and also when it won on Caulfied Cup day.. along with alll it's other runs... ( I back all those trainers I mentioned runners) It had only been out the money once.. so it is a pretty fair horse..Did you have it then? I did because I follow O'Shea religiously.. I only backed it because it was trained by J. O'Shea, no other reason.. Everyone who backed the horse on Saturday have the Jockey of QOTH to thank for the collect.. It's a bit like the blokes who whinged when their divvies were cut because Mr Celebrity was declared a non runner at Geelong... Had Mr C got a fair start they would not have collected full stop.. same on Sat, had QOTH been give a competent ride, those who backed Jet Spur would not have collected... all my opinion mind you

As for the "brilliant ride" in the Derby... By Jeez there was a shocker by another of the "best" that made it a lot easier for the winner (have a look at Headturner in the straight, then look how it finished the race off) ... Luck fell his way in that one.. But he is one of the best... just ask him
