Default Ratings

I have devised a ratings method using a base figure of 50 and adding or subtracting the different factor that I consider important.

So far the results are encouraging. A stike rate of 65% from the top 6 rated horses. It's early days, but it looks promising.

Hi Mad Gambler,

Good luck to you, it's a daunting task requiring a hell of a lot of work to be successful.

A question if I may....

How do you determine the strength of each factor?

If you base is 50, you might have a scale of 2 for jockey or 5 for trainer, or .5 for a win in similar class for example.

How do you determine what weighting to give each factor?

PP odds are a rating too. Just about any newspaper will give you 80% winners from the top 5, without any work whatsoever.

Having said that though, Mad is on the right track in creating a personal rating system. Therein lies runners that have a sniff of odds about them because they will be hopefully different to the PP ratings or any commercial rating service [waste of time otherwise]. Courage to back them is the ticket. Keep it going Mad.
