Default Doomben Saturday

Race 1.
Prince Arthur, Fiery Sunset, Lorenzo, Aerosol,
I like the form of this Prince Arthur ,,seems to be improving all the time and you have to like the breeding..Cahill and a good barrier seals the deal,,,Aerosol will give them something to catch here ,,fought on well last start and with only the light weight and around Doomben he could sneak a winning break,,,Fiery Sunset is at a distance now that will suit thought she raced well in restricted room last start and still battled on,,will strip fitter and should get the good run....Lorenzo shouldnt be ignored as he's a very tough campaignor who has in the past run well in races better than this ,,,forget his last run where he got to far back,,,he'll be ignored by the punters up here but dont leave him out..if Prince Arthur is at the short price (hoping for 4's) it maybe worth looking at an e/w with Lorenzo or Aerosol and loading up on the trifecta.

Race 2.
Becks will be short and probably deserves to be. But it looks a non betting race for me..I'm trying to convince myself to back Mitanni as he's proven against better than these but he's got the weight and Beadman on board who will kill a price...
Theres a heap of speed here with Naval Seal ,Dulacca Diva,Kia Chow ect all up the front going hell for leather,,,Mitanni could camp himself off these and hes the one that will be strongest in the last 100m ..
Would love to see how he looks in the yard..if he looks the goods and wallace has him fresh and sharp,, he looks in this race e/w....Black Suit who will get the good run for 3rd....

Race 3.
I like this race... I'm hoping they come hard for Con Con who was super last start..but this is alot tougher than that race ...I really like Champion Star and Star Of Canada ....I didnt mind Champion Stars last run..he was never in it on the hard ground when they just went way to fast for him but he did work to the line nicely.....last prep he won here off a similar prep and tomorrow he has the good barrier and jockey....looks good and the 15's in the paper would be very nice..
Star was very good last start..the master in Colless had him nice and relaxed and he found the line very well...he seems to have lost that early brilliant barrier speed he used to have but its still fast enough to cross this field and if Colless relaxes him again and dictates he'll be hard to catch..if the odds permit back both.....Con Con,Bitabiff,Magic Marvo next best....

Race 4.
Hard to go past Reigart ..his barrier trial the other day was super and he looks the Class ..Cruskit was good last start and will be improved...these the top 2 by far..Angel Girl, Turban, Diamonds Am I and Prey for Peace the next best....
Reigart one of the better bets of the day..

Race 5.
I'm taking on Game On here...this is his acid test..i dont think his onepaced style will suit here.....you dont have to be an old fashioned stayer like him here to win around Doomben he'll keep for the Brissie Cup..
High Academy with Stewart off and the master on is a big show..i was impressed with the way he stormed home last start again and even though hes built like a miler he seems to be able to get the distance,,,,
Classic Karla's last 2 runs have been super...suited more to e/f but will get the good run and might not be as far back as usual...Coalesc looks an improver and will be the one to beat here...might lack a run though......
High Academy and Classic Karla on top for me...cant seperate them so depending on odds back them both..
Motivate with room and with me not backing him the one i'm worried about coming home late..have him in your tris ..
High Academy/ Classic Karla
Coalesc
Game On/ Motivate/Hello Possums

Race 6.
A good race this one...Belmonte is all the rage but has had a month off...will that tell the last 100m ? Ice Chariot is tipped by every man and his dog..but barrier 1 isnt ideal for this horse..he has no barrier speed at all and cant be pushed to take a position ,,so he'll be way back on the inside of the herd...
Anapine trialled very well last week,,,,and from the awkward barrier with really no other leaders in the race i can see her coming across and crossing to the fence...the start there at Doomben is very good so she'll have enough time to do this and if she bowls along she could steal this around these corners while at the back there all jostling for runs...
I'll go for Anapine at the value....Ice Chariot and Belmonte the dangers ..Kincharm / Masai Pride/ Nexgen / Majorca the next best...
Ice Chariot will keep for E/F..

Race 7.
I'm taking on a few fancies tomorrow...Game on/Coalesc/ Belmonte/ Con Con/ Ice Haroit and now Virage De Fortune..
must be crazy but i still think they wont catch All BAr One....its a race of tactics though and if something hassles him he might be vulnerable...i cant see much doing this though...Century Serb ? Impaler ? after last start impaler will no way be taking anything on again....Century Serb doesnt have the cruising speed to keep up with him..
All BAr One again for me tomorrow...the master will rate him perfectly...
The value in this race is Black Ink,,so if you dont like the shorties Black ink will get the good run and has that freshn now that suits him....his run in the galaxy on the worst part of the track was huge ...
Media was in that same race and was on the better part of the track,,,,,Falaise did well last start and is a chance if he gets in from the bad barier..
ABO
Black Ink / VDF
Media / Gee I Jane/ Falaise/Daunting Lad/St Basil
I'm a fan of St Basil and i'm expecting a better run from him on the better surface tomorrow...that e/f track that day was bad and i hope they get it right before the features start.....these midweeks they are having should be transfered to somewhere else to give the track a rest..

Race 8.
I dont know what to do in this race..i have My Son Day/ Mesmorising/ Mr Sportsman all very close...not far back is Limarki/ Aim So High and Monte Cavallo.....i liked the way My Son Day cruised to the line last start and if hes the 15's i see in the paper i'll be on e/w,,,,i do think Mesmorising will be hard to beat and we all know Mr Sportsman but he'll need to get off those rails and get some room..hard race...My SonDay e/w and have some combos in your multis..

Best Bets, Reigart / Prince Arthur /
Best e/w's, Mitanni /Champion Star / Anapine/ High A / Classic Karla

Some value around in these tips...I'll either win a stack or lose a stack but i've never been one that scared of a shorty....i sometimes become a Cowboy when i've got on a bit of a roll but it doesnt take long for the punt to knock you back down to earth..

I'm confident taking on Game On and Ice Chariot...taking on Virage is very dangerous as shes a super horse but unders imo..

Good Luck All

G'Day Mav,

I love this time of year. Big fields, but they are generally good quality and you get value where ever you look. No rain here for an age, so the track will be rock hard - as usual you probably don't want to be too far back on this tight track.

Race 1 - The one race on the program that i don't like. Pretty ordinary bunch. Can't get enthused about the Cummings runner. There is an enormous amount of speed here - Aerosol will go hard; Spinning Con, Celtic Trial, Danefull, Prince Arthur all have speed and like to press on. I can see them stringing this field out something chronic in the first 800m. The queston remains, can the backmarkers keep up? ??????ed if i know. La Bella Mer is a backmarker who has had a couple of runs lately for fitness and should be able to get in from the alley (Colless should jag her back). I think she can come home late at good odds. Fiery Sunset has drawn well and will get a perfect run. She doesn't win out of turn, but will be thereabouts at the death. Prince Arthur is thrown in for 3rd because hes an up-and-comer and quite frankly, there isn't much improvement in some of his opposition here.

Race 2 - Good sprint race here. Don't mind the chances of one at odds. Red Hot Pistol. I've noticed throughout his short career that this horse has been well backed on a number of occasions (sometimes without apparent cause). This leads me to believe that the stable, or someone connected, has a good opinion of him. Given that, and the good time run at the Sunny Coast a week or so back, i think he can put up a good show. The alley is a huge plus too. Becks was dominant last time and there is no reason to suggest he can't repeat the dose here. If anything, he should be better suited around Doomben. Black Suit will sit off them and hope that the leaders weaken in the last 100m or so and given the huge amount of speed runners (Becks, Naval Seal, River Hunter, Dulacca Diva, Kai Chow, Red Hot Pistol), thats not out of the question.

Race 3 - Big field, but a nice event. I don't mind Golden Fox. The last run was good at Eagle Farm - he just didnt quite get the 1400m and back at Doomben with 50m less to travel i think he can go close, if ridden in a similar manner. Morris is a promising hoop too, not getting the media attention of the other apprentices, but he goes ok. Obviously Champion Star is the logical danger, with the alley, the class drop and the good fresh form. He is in this up to his ears. Power Hunt has obviously had his fair share of injuries but has truckloads of abiltiy and it wouldn't surprise me if he ran well tomorrow. There appears to be a lot of speed in this race aswell (Tellem, Golden Fox, Viscay Star, Doonan Dancer) so all horses should have the opportunity to win.

Race 4 - Well Reigart is back and i think he'll return on a winning note. It was a terrific run in the millions - 3 deep and battled on well for 3rd. The Sydney trip didnt go right for him (he ran into Plagiarize, who i think wouldve gone close in the slipper, if not for injury), but back on home soil, hes a bit good for them i fancy. Cruskit, the stablemate might enjoy Eagle Farm more i think, but has got ability and can run well tomorrow given adequate speed (i'm assuming a strong tempo given the 17 horse field. Mr Bachelor, Heartbreak Pass and Partygoer all go forward, plus any number of others which i have missed, so speed shouldn't be a worry). Pirate Queen has been given no favours with the barrier but will go back and can steam home late if they pour the pressure on. There are a number of other good chances in here though, its a good field of 2yos.

Race 5 - Well, i'm sick and tired of High Academy. He will probably benefit from the rider change, but i'm not putting him on top. I like Game On. I can see where you are coming from Mav, but i just think from the 4 alley and against this lot, i think he can go mighty close. The huge weight drop is a big plus (i know he hasn't beaten much yet) and he has nice tactical speed. Having said that, there are a few that like to go forward here so i can see him sitting 3 or 4 back and 2 out to give him some galloping room. There is one horse that i have followed for a while and think can figure in some of the distance races this winter - Art Success. Bred to be a stayer and looks like the longer they go, the better he'll get. The 19 is dreadful but he'll go back and will be winding up late. I doubt he can win with the short straight, but i'd be keeping a close eye on him. High Academy, if he sees daylight, should be able to account for this lot on best form. Having said that, he has found daylight a pretty scarce commodity the last few runs (much to my dismay ).

Race 6 - In my view, Ice Chariot has been dudded twice in the last 2 barrier draws. Obviously 21 alley at EF is ordinary, but 1 alley at Doomben in a big field is a nightmare, especially for a horse that gets back. I just can't gamble on him getting the runs at the top of the straight. Not at 3-1. I tend to agree with you Mav, Anapine. There is really a lack of speed here, on paper, which leads me to believe that she will be able to dictate from the front and maybe steal the race on the bend. Obviously you would never dsiscount Ice Chariot - if the breaks go his way, he'll win. I just doubt he'll get the luck. Masai Pride has the horror gate, but will probably miss the start again, so he'll be back last but has a flying finish and can easily figure.

Race 7 - The highlight of the day. And what a good race it is. I agree with Mav, All Bar One is too speedy for them. No-one would be stupid enough to take him on and he'll be left alone and Colless will be able to rate him perfectly. You'd think that if he can run 68.5 at EF then the Doomben 1200m is no worries at all. Virage will be sitting on him all the way but i think All Bar One will get so much benefit kicking on the bend that she won't be able to get him. She is a clear 2nd pick though, top filly. Single Rose is an up and coming filly and could surprise a few in this carnival up here. Not here though, WFA doesn't suit her at present. I like her though. Can't wait to see Black Ink in the Stradbroke this year too, you'd think hes the perfect horse - assuming he gets the journey. But thats a discussion for another day .

Race 8 - Good one to finish on. I think Mesmerising is a special. Great fresh record, good at the track and distance, good alley and gun jockey. The speed will be on, she'll get back to about midfield, hook to the outside and run all over them. Too easy. Mr Sportsman was a good win at EF in good time a couple of weeks back and can improve on that if Bowditch can get him into clear running room. I like him as a horse, i think he'll go through these grades very quickly. Limarki is a fighter who can run quick time around this distance. I wouldn't be underestimating him tomorrow. The 2 alley will see him sitting in front on the paint. Mason can rate them well from in front too. I'm sorry i can't include My Son Day too. I love this horse but i don't like that jockey from the alley. She'll have him 3 deep for sure. Having said all that, Mesmerising will be beaten at the turn without an excuse in the world and My Son Day will box seat and win running away .

Great days racing with my best being Reigart, All Bar One and Mesmerising with good eachway chances to Golden Fox and Art Success. And keep an eye on Ice Chariot for the derby. Lot of interest there.

Good luck everyone,

Sven

Very keen on a couple in Brissy:

I'll back 2 roughies in race 2 River Hunter & Sea Chain, hoping the pace is fast enough to affect the two faves.

Been very impressed with Star of Canada's 2 runs from a spell. Did a lot of work first up & stiff, then last start ran into a lot of dead ends, 1000m was too short. Step up in dist is perfect. Has a victory over Black Ink to its credit last prep, so class shouldnt be an issue here either.

Beadman kills the price Coalesce. So I come back to Game On. Has a barrier & fitness adv. Brave Lancer a run or 2 short as well. Game On looks the goods if 3/1 or 7/2 on offer

I'll aso bet Virage DF & Black Ink in race 7. Both have the class to be too good for All Bar One

Default Summary

Race 1.
Prince Arthur to good..Ias at 3.70 but on course i heard you could have got 4's....oh well...still a good start to the day...
Race 2.
Becks at the very short would have given everyone a heart attack,,not me though as he was way to short for me to get interested..
Race 3.
Everyone was on Champion Star and then he goes and misses the start...and took with it my money and any chance of winning..still he'll keep for next time.
Race 4.
Reigart,,ridiculous price...,,good race to watch...liked the run of Angel Girl..
Race 5.
Took on Game on with Classic Karla and thought he was unlucky...didnt get much room in the straight and he looks good for the cups...glad i got on the earlies.....Well done Sven with Arts Success,,,hope you had something on..
Race 6.
Well Anapine had to do a bit more work than i thought to get to the front and she had nothing when it mattered...Belmonte was huge and the month off did nothing but improve him...Ice Chariot was good to...will be winning soon..
Race 7.
Same story here with ABO..he had to beat them off early and it cost him...Glad i took the earlies about Daunting Lad and St Basil for the Straddie..great ride by Seamer..
Race 8.
Well My Son Day was half my quote...you'd think i'd take the 10's about Mr sportsman but noooo,,had a big trifecta in this race and had the choice between Decibeel and Marikal for 2nd ...and of course picked decibeel who was massively unlucky in the straight...had Duke Sam for 3rd aswell...one of those days in Brissie..

All in all a shocker ,,,1 winning bet in the 1st and 4 full stake losses...and a losing treble and a losing big tri in the last to top it all off...
Was right taking on the favs Game On, Virage ....excluding Belmonte but just didnt pick the right winner to upset them...

Melbourne
Woohoo this is better..
Duro Valley, Bird dancer both winning and nice tris to top it off....finally a good protest result..
Overnightsensation...did nothing...
great day in Melbourne...huge

Adelaide
Flying Object...to good...very nice trifecta aswell..
Losses on Constructor and Stone Queen...
Nice little profit in Adelaide

Gold Coast
Thimbles was a fantastic run..i like this horse..stumbled on the corner and still nearly won...
Draveen...made a stack of ground..will be winning next time..
ugle loss

Newcastle
Knot Now,,great run ...will be winning soon in a race that suits..

Seymour
Attaca...poor ..

Albury
Woohooo Moincoin Magic...very nice,,needed that ,,,

In total...saved by Melbourne and the contributions by Adelaide and Albury...after a shocker in brissie i'll take the money and run..
who would have thought Melbourne would save me..usually my worst track,,

Hope you guys had a good one

Forgot Sydney in my summary i see..
Backed Catchadane in the last for a loss...fantastic run by Pekalan in that race..
Imprisoned will keep for on top of the ground and around a track he can stay near the rails...a real good horse this and will be winning..

Watched the replays of yesterdays races,,,and was dissapionted with Ice Charoit...seemed to just whack away and did nothing...had the room Sven and i thought he wouldnt get aswell...didnt mind Majorca's run in this and Masia Pride from the wide barrier did well...

watched Decibeel get almost thrown over the rails...looked good till then and if he got the run would of had the Gee i Jane sprint lane and would have won...
Classic Karla was very sound...
Good to see Celtric Trial finish off well..maybe still has a win left..
Magic Marvo was good...sack Power hunt..
My Son day finished off well,,,draws a barrier next time will be winning

Doomben was a in good order yesterday....cant wait till next week..

Hey Mav,

With regard to Ice Chariot, he doesn't seem to run his best races around Doomben...maybe he just doesn't get enough room to wind up. I wouldn't be giving up on him.

Art Success was a top run, he is a great Brissie Cup chance after that run because he will only get better back at Eagle Farm with more ground.

How good was Daunting Lad too. That was a top effort and this bloke just keeps stepping up. Well done on getting early straddy odds for him Mav. St Basil was a nice straddy trial too, getting home along the fence. Eagle Farm is his track.

Hope you all had a good one,

Sven

Unlucky for 'Imprisioned' to hit a slow track Mav. I was ready to put a bit on him but blinked at the 'slow' track. I'll be looking for him next start.
