Smile Rain, Rain go away damm it

Hi All,
Can anyone living near Randwick Racecourse give me an acurate rundown on just how much rain you've had? please...

I don't trust the TAB's to tell you the truth given that their turnover drops off when the track condition goes down a peg or two.

Has anyone got any reliable statistics on how many runners are successful when carrying a weight of 58 kg or more over 1200 m or longer at the city tracks?... I expect it is not many..

Kind Regards

Hi Oz,

Just looking at the Bureau of Met website their seems to have been a little rain around last night/this morning in the Sydney area. Little bit over the last 72 hours too. However none today, none expected tommorrow - fine and sunny. So all up, i hazard a guess at a genuine good/dead track. Depends on how fast it will dry.

Cool

Any idea about the wind? If its warm and steady it will dry the ground more quickly than a cold bgusty breeze.

Doesn't say precisely. Although at other observation points around the Sydney area it suggests a Southerly and at others a South/Easterly wind of varying strength. Doesn't sound to warm.

If it's of any interest, i usually wait and watch the first race of the day to gauge the going. Like you i listen to very little the TAB says about anything.

Google "'BOM GOV AU", see if you can find anymore to help.

Thumbs up

Thanks for that,

I agree it is a good policy to wait and see after the first race, but I supose I'm just getting the jitters because I've made all my assesments and now I'm just sitting around working myself into a tiz...If only we could bet with something other than money and then cash in only when we win...

I would really like to see the tracks post Pentrometer readings on their websites every day... Or even a web cam so we can gauge how much rain has fallen...

Should put it out of my mind till tomorrow and have a couple of beers..

Thanks Again

Randwick received 5mm of rain on Thursday evening. No rain today (Friday). The weather was cool 24 degrees. Randwick is located in the sandbelt part of Sydney. It is the best drying track in Sydney. Very rare to see a heavy track for Randwick. I would expect the track to be very close to good on Saturday.

Weight 58kg won't stop a good horse over a short distance 1200m. 61kg might.
