Ascot 19/07
Hey all,
With the cancelation of this afternoons meetings at Moe and Newcastle, i have turned my attention to this evenings meetings from the UK. Starting to watch a few videos and thought i might throw out a few ideas, get some discussion going, as much for myself as anyone else that may be interested. Race 1 This is a real tough race to start with. Most, if not all of these runners have won at sometime in their short careers. As a result, i'm having a bit of trouble lining up the form, as this is the first time a lot of them meet. That being said, i'm gonna' take a stab here and go with Declaration of War. I wouldn't be surprised to see several likely candidates win this, but i was impressed with his win last time out. He sat just off the pace and produced a strong run to the line to win by a length or so. Other candidates of note would be Henrythenavigator who i am willing to take on, Bobs Surprise, Luck Money and Pencil Hill. Pencil Hill beat the well regarded A.P O'Brien runner, Achilles of Troy last time out. Bit of a lottery, few decent chances, Dec. of War for me. Race 2 Hard to look past the Aussies here. All the hype surrounding Miss Andretti is starting to put me off, don't know why as she'll probably bolt in. 4 from 4 at the distance and 5 from 6 1st up. Hard to argue a case against her i suppose. Interesting to see how the others go; Bentley her main danger? Interesting runner at $10, on you-know-where. TT??? Or Magnus perhaps, bit of a dark horse 'ol Magnus. Back with more later...

Betting on all but the last in WA. Current thoughts:
R1 8 DECLARATION OF WAR 11 GREEK MYTHOLOGY 12 HENRYTHENAVIGATOR Based on exposed form these nags should run out a strong 1200. R2 16 MISS ANDRETTI But awfully short! R3 2 COCKNEY REBEL 7 HE'S A DECOY Both in great form. R4 2 GEORGE WASHINGTON 6 RAMONTI Also both in great form. R5 7 LEG SPINNER Will stay all day. |

Part 2
Race 3
Cockney Rebel certainly the horse to beat. Two impressive victories so far this campaign, beating just about every horse in this field at one stage or another. Creachadoir chased him home valiantly last start, beaten a length but looked to lay in under pressure with the line looming. Not the most inspiring trait, so probably as close as he will go. Some talk about a rematch between Dutch Art and Cockney after their last meeting in the 2000 Guineas. He's a Decoy seemed to only be warming up at the finish last time out, with Duke of Marmalade staying on well for fourth. Cockney the one to beat. Race 4 George Washington makes his reappearance after disappointing all those lovely fillies at stud, although i'm sure he didn't mind. He is certainly the class horse of the race. Doesn't appear to be much opposition. Evie has won 8 of 9 just beating Ramonti a nose last start, Jeremy looked lost in that race. Cesare steps up in class significantly. It's up to George W here i think, if he's firing he wins. If not, who knows? But at 5/4 i think i'll skip this race altogether and let him run without my $$$$$$.

Race 5
Nightmare race. Took one look at the field and decided i couldn't be bothered. Getting tired now. Will wait and listen to the Betfair pundits and see if they have anything. Race 6 Market suggests it's between two, A.P O'Briens Achilles of Troy and Hatta Fort, with Hughie Bowman onboard. Interestingly, Hatta Fort beat Swiss Franc last time out and Achilles went down to Penny Hill, with what could be described a sub-par performance. Both Swiss and Penny run in the first so i'll be watching closely. But given it's another 21 runner field of two year olds...

Well that was fun.
Henrythenavigator made an ass-o-me, haven't seen the run. Gotta' respect the stable a little more than i did. Declaration of War was a bit, nay, a complete flop. Aussie 1-3-4. Miss Andretti far too good, won it easy. Magnus a good run, think he'll come on for it. If i remember correctly, earlier in the Autumn, Miss Andretti gave him a bit of a spanking in their first meeting and only barely held on during their second. Takeover ran a honest race and poor old Bentley? I assume something happened. Don't think i'll be betting against Miss Andretti though. Cockney Rebel was another flop. Didn't mind George Washingtons run at all (4th). About a length covered the first 4. He was making ground on the leaders at the end of the race. Has to benefit from the run, being away for so long. Unfortunately everyone else would have seen it too, so wouldn't expect a price. Achilles of Troy confirmed his last start flop was no fluke. Hatta Fort and Hughie ran a good race for third. Swiss Franc, who Hatta Fort beat last time out ran second to Henrythenavigator in the earlier race.
