Statistics on runs from spell
Hi all,
Just trying to improve my sectional times plan, which is treading water at the moment, I thought I might also back check the history of each entry I include following an analysis of the weekend sydney and melbourne races. With a view of looking at the horse's similar run in it's last/previous preparations. I'm not sure if there is a "angle" in all this but does anyone have stats on races that are won by runners having their such and such run from a spell. I would expect that these would change as the distance increases. Thanks, Paul |

Horses mostly win when they are fit. Some horse [not many] are presented fit to win at 1st. or 2nd start but in general you will see a lot of horses that will win this prep., winning during there 3rd.-5th. up start. Age plays a part in fitness with older horses taking longer to reach their peak. After that it's mostly downhill until next prep.

thanks for that Crash, It's pretty much what I had a feeling of. This is something I intend to now take a closer look at. Following each weekend meeting I go through all the sectional times and copy them to a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet tells me all sorts of things like tempo of the race etc, how many lengths a horse gained on the winner in the final 600/400, and vice versa. I do this while watching a replay of each race on tv.
But just to gain that possible extra bit of advantage, I now intend to check the history in previous preps of such fancied horse. Who knows, might be a waste of time, but at least it keeps me outa the pubs...!! Paul |

A nice thing to remember is that horse's are creatures of past habit. |

most races of 1200m or less are won by first uppers! true!

Races of less than 1200m are a bad bet. Conversely to your statement, 1200m or more races are not won by 1st uppers Party.

I once asked Warren Block the same question and the answer he gave me was that every horse is an individual .Look at the particular horses profile.
