Group 1 Tipping comp (Autumn 2009)
Okay, we did something like this a couple of years ago. We'll just be concentrating on the group 1 races in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide until the end of April and you have to try to pick the first 4 horses in order. If you manage to do that you get a perfect score of 100 points, with progressively lower scores all the way down to zero if you don't get a single horse in the first 4. At the end of the autumn, the one with the most points is the winner. Here's the points system:
Points: 30 - Winner in the top 4 picks 15 - 2nd horse in the top 4 picks 10 - 3rd horse in the top 4 picks 5 - 4th horse in the top 4 picks Bonus points: 20 - Winner rated on top 10 - Trifecta in order 10 - First 4 in order This week's Group 1 race: FLEM R6 - 2.46 COOLMORE LIGHTNING STAKES (1000 METRES) 1 APACHE CAT - Greg Eurell Corey Brown 6 58.5 2 WEEKEND HUSSLER - Ross McDonald Brad Rawiller 9 58.5 3 SWICK (NZ) - Bart Cummings Michael Rodd 4 58.5 4 TYPHOON ZED - Tim Martin Craig Williams 11 58.5 5 SCENIC BLAST - Daniel Morton Steven Arnold 1 58.5 6 SWISSACE - Mick Mair Ken Pope 5 58.5 7 GRAND DUELS - Byron Cozamanis Dwayne Dunn 3 58.5 8 SNAPPY TOM - Danielle Chapman Craig Newitt 10 58.5 9 SEVENTH ROCK - David Hayes Anton Marcus 7 58.5 10 LETMEENTERTAINYOU - Karen Byrnes Darren Gauci 2 58.5 11 WILANDER - Lee Freedman Kerrin McEvoy 8 55 When you post your picks, make sure to include a couple of reserve selections in case of scratchings. And make sure you list your horses (including reserves) in order of preference. Last edited by Sportz : 29th January 2009 at 01:47 PM. |

Sportz,
Getting a 1st. 4 in order is a heck of a task that might not happen in the entire comp. period. How about first 4 boxed [it's a nice effort], 80 points? As scoring is so far, 3 in the first 4 gets 55 and 4 in the first 4 gets only 60? There would be a massive difference on the tote between a [boxed] tri in 4 and a [boxed] 4 in 4 if you get my drift. I had a slightly different points system which I used when I did this previously, and it worked out absolutely perfectly. But unfortunately I've lost it. In any case, it was a bit complicated, and I wanted to make this system really easy for people to understand. So everyone could work out their own scores if they wanted to.
Also, I want to reward people for tipping the winner on top as well. Sure it's great to get a box trifecta or a box first 4, but those people shouldn't get a substantially bigger score than someone who manages to pick the winner on top. |

Okay, how about this then. At least 70 points if you manage to get the box first 4, with an extra 30 points up for grabs if you're good enough to get them in order.
Points: 30 - Winner in top 4 picks 15 - 2nd horse in top 4 picks 10 - 3rd horse in top 4 picks 5 - 4th horse in top 4 picks Bonus points: 10 - Winner rated on top 10 - Trifecta in order 10 - First 4 in order 10 - First 4 in top 4 picks Last edited by Sportz : 30th January 2009 at 12:27 PM. |
