ROCKSTAR PLAYS AT NEWMARKET...

06/04/09

sired by GALILEO

hes built just like the diva..

The colt, the first foal of legendary mare Makybe Diva, nicknamed, Rockstar by the team at MAKYBE was every bit the star of the show at Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sales. A packed Inglis Newmarket sales complex with the aisles jammed over ten people deep watched as colt was knocked down for a cool $1.5 million to leading Melbourne trainer, Danny O'Brien.

The beautifully built colt was the centre of attention from day one, not surprising since his mother was perhaps the greatest race mare ever to grace the Australian turf.

A great joy for Tony Santic who immediately approached O'Brien to put his hand up for a share.

"Naturally I am delighted he's gone to a good home-Danny O'Brien's a great trainer. I approached him straight away and told him to keep a share for us."

Danny O'Brien is carving a name for himself as a patient trainer which will give the colt every chance to feature in his three year old classic year and train on to hopefully become a cups contender in years to come. With a Caulfield Cup already to his name in a relatively short career, Danny is ideally suited as the mentor of the colt.

Tony was understandably emotional after the sale and was relieved the colt attracted so much interest in the ring with at least three parties bidding for the colt.

"This is one of my biggest thrills to see her first foal go for a lot of money and hopefully down the track he's able to win some great races... you never know, he might be standing at MAKYBE beside Purrealist."

Good luck Rockstar on your journey to becoming a racehorse. You've already done the team at MAKYBE proud.

new filly came in september

A NEW DIVA ARRIVES...

20/08/08

MAKYBE Stud Manager, Scott Holcombe today announced the arrival of a new princess. Australia's Queen of the Turf, Makybe Diva, gave birth to a Filly at Segenhoe Stud this morning at 2.40am.

MAKYBE Stud Manager, Scott Holcombe today announced the arrival of a new princess. Australia’s Queen of the Turf, Makybe Diva, gave birth to a Filly at Segenhoe Stud this morning at 2.40am.

Holcombe, who manages the MAKYBE operation in Victoria, reported that both mare and foal were doing extremely well and Owner Tony Santic, who is currently away, was delighted to hear the news.

“Makybe Diva has taken to motherhood as a true professional. She has come through the foaling in fantastic order and we look forward to welcoming them home to MAKYBE in coming weeks.

“Tony is currently on vacation and was anxiously awaiting the phone call. He was extremely happy to hear it was a filly, but more important, they are both fit and well.”

Tony Santic confirmed last month Makybe Diva’s first foal by Galileo would be part of the quality group of yearlings currently being prepared by the MAKYBE team on offer at the Sydney Easter Yearling Sales.

“The Galileo Colt is doing extremely well and continues to impress. We have a lovely draft of yearlings and obviously he will be very popular” Holcombe advised.

Makybe Diva will head to Coolmore to be served by Australia’s leading stallion, Encosta De Lago, prior to returning to MAKYBE Victoria with her new addition.

With MAKYBE now standing their foundation stallion Purrealist there is still much speculation as to whether or not Purrealist would be a potential date for the Diva in the future.

“Purrealist is a magnificent stallion prospect who has proven to be extremely popular in his first season. We have bookings from Danny O’Brien, David Hayes not to mention the number of quality mares Tony has committed to support him” Holcombe explained.

Purrealist will commence his first stud season at MAKYBE on September 1 and has an excellent book of over 120 mares.

I think you’ll find that the Diva is in-foal to Encosta De Lago. That sire was to father her 2nd foal but those plans had to be changed due to the outbreak of equine influenza. Fusaichi Pegasus instead sired her 2nd foal.
