Does anyone know where I can get hold of detailed statistics?
Is there a publication or website available.

For example:
stats on horses carrying 65kg.

It's easy to say that 70% of races are won by horses carrying less than 65kg.

But what I need to know is what percentage of horses that actually carry that weight are able to win.

That's just an example.

It's the only way you can get an accurate assessment.

Anyhow I hope someone knows of somewhere!

Hi EI,

There is no website that will give you these stats, maybe there should be.

If you want the ability to pull this sort of data you need to invest in a database of your own. The best on the market in my opinion is TRB's GTSi program, it's simply world class and you would be amazed at the research and data you can pull from thousands of past races and how it can be analysed. Outside of the research element it is also a complete form analysis and ratings program. There is really nothing else on the Aussie market that comes close to it.

I purchased the program about 2 years ago and along with my own tools, it has been a major contributor to improved profits over what I was previously achieving.

You can view a copy of an on line brochure at http://www.trb.com.au/gts/index.html
There is also a free demo available with (I believe) one months data so that you can test and see the power of the functionality for yourself.

Equine Investor - there is one site that I have seen that may help but I have not actually used it - they do have a 2 day free demo so you can try it out without having to pay. The address is http://www.ird.com.au

If that doesn't help then you may have to build your own! Some figures on the example from my own database (based on 2002 data only):

Weight/Starters/Winners/TotalDivs(Tabcorp)
60/223/37/$164.80
60.5/162/31/$140.20
61/218/21/$134.60
62/75/9/$55.80
62.5/175/19/$105.00
63/150/15/$81.60
63.5/113/12/$121.30
64/109/13/$57.90
64.5/81/16/$66.70
65/154/11/$47.70

Thanks for the info all.

IRD is a nice program but has very tragic pitfalls.

Here's an example (I tried the demo)

I keyed in all Metro class races all grades with win % 0 - 100%
place % 0 -100%

It came up with 22% winners!!!!!

With no other boxes checked it means either some other animal won the race or horses with a win or place percentage greater than 100% are going around!

Anyhow as far as the stats go I am not looking at profit percentage of each statistic at this stage - the raw stats will help me in race ratings thats the only agenda.

I think you will find that the 22% reflects only horses with 100% because no number was placed in the fist box .

I think if you placed say a 1 in fist box you will find a different.

If you wanted the total sample regardless of percentages , see what happens placing 0 in both boxes.
