Quite a number of members are interested in place betting. Has anyone any figures -- or know where they may be available -- on favourites in the country and the percentage of places achieved? someone recently gave the forum the valuable information that all over only 55% of favourites are placed. A rather surprising figure.
It seems that on country race tracks there would be a) more 'local' knowledge available which should be reflected in the prices; and b) and that there are more 'clear-cut' favourites for this and, probably, other reasons. Comments? [ This Message was edited by: merriguy on 2002-11-18 11:39 ] |

I suggest you get in touch with Form Pro at his site. He was able to give me a table of percentages where 1st and 2nd favourites in races end up. Can't find it with me otherwise I would have posted it. |

Hi, in response to your question this information is readily available in the Daily Telegraph racing supplement.
For example, today, it shows: Ballarat: fav record for 3 years:- 31.36% win 32.80% place It also provides details about the most successful trainers, jockeys and barrier positions. I hope this helps but you may have to access this info on a daily basis as I don't think a more comprehensive record of all country tracks is available. However, I think this may be provided by the individual racing clubs. |

Thanks guys for the input/suggestions. Will follow them up.
No one seems to have commented on the basic suggestion itself (more favourites are likely to be placed in the country); but I guess the figures will indicate that as I do some follow-up research. Thanks. [ This Message was edited by: Merriguy on 2002-11-22 17:18 ] |

Place strike rate of Favs.at country meetings
Using Pre-Post newspaper market. 53% AvPrc $1.67 Using SP 60% AvPrc $1.52 So looking at these 2 , the SP is the stronger performer . I hope this answers your question.

Thanks, Bhagwan, info appreciated. Your "Fields of 5 - 8" idea looks interesting too.
