Being someone who is looking for something that is mechanical, or at least as mechanical as possible , I was wondering if there is anything in the numbers of the recent form or recent runs when it comes to a horse winning.

For instance, Barny, I think, has come up with the form improving before a win (something like 743 or 542, etc). Does anyone know how many horses that have come 2nd last start have gone on to win their next race? What about 3rd last start? Is there a correlation there somewhere where you can back every horse that has come say 2nd last start, or whatever, that then goes on to win?

Has anyone done any number crunching in this regard? At a guess I would say 2nd last start would produce the most winners but who knows. Maybe it's first up from a spell.

I have been monitoring horses that finished 2nd last start.

Best results to date is taking those that are racing within 14 days of their previous start, are 100 points on TABOnline and start as favourite. Results aren't spectacular but its's holding up okay betting for the place.
