I think by now everyone expects the guys on Racing Retro to spruik their masters' views but the recent statement by TAB Ltd's official spokesman is beyond belief.

Quote" the real reason they( the betting exchanges) should be banned outright is that they are an instrument for the unwelcome proliferation of gambling in this country" unquote
And this is coming from the same people who brought you sucker bets like Spinner and introduced flexi-betting to encourage more gambling on exotics. ...Is this staggering hypocrisy?
Why don't they ....admit the real reason they want the exchanges banned is to protect their corporate profits.

Funny how they want it banned....yet they are in the process of developing thier own betting exchange here in Australia.....i say the exchanges are good because it gives you an option....when the 3 tabs combine.....and it will happen NSW and STAB are already agreed on joining forces just waiting for the sale to finalise that will leave one TAB and some bookies....all this divi plus and max divi will dissapear.....what competition will there be....Bookies....forget it those ok i guess blood suckers is a bit over the top...lets rephrass that (the guys that hang around a race track and try and take all your money)are dead with the markets they offer now....mmm hang on that makes them sound like thiefs or conmen......guess there is nothing nice i can call them

Please be careful about the wording used in your posts. We don't want a lawsuit from a TAB.

The only downside i see for us the average punter at the moment is that the money is going overseas which in turn deprives the race clubs and the industry some input of cash ) from the govt(or tabs)if some organizations werent so greedy and be prepared to cop 5%instead of upto 18% all would be hunky dory people would be able to cop a price (fixed and live with it as opposed to backing something at say $5 and seeing the odds drop to $4 after theyve jumped and while im on my High Horse Id like to see a lotto or lottery with ALL the proceeds going going into a health and or education pool Im quite sure people would be happier buying a ticket in that I know I would (Sorry I know its off topic but I had to say it to somebody)See and i never said bloodsucking leeches once.

NEVETS,
You are right in saying that at the moment betting exchanges are not contributing to Aust racing but haven't Betfair always maintained they were willing to pay a percentage of their turnover?
On a related theme those recent British jockeys scandals must be a godsend to the betting exchange bashers.
And on a lighter note:
Question: Which horse do you lay in an English race?
Answer: The one with rear-view mirrors attached to its blinkers!
