Hopefully we can give each WA course its own thread -

THURSDAY 27/02/03
Notice another eastcoaster going around in the maiden race 4.

TOOSIE TARLA - Only had 6 starts and last start was its first after a long lay-off.
Has run placings at Murwilimbah and Gold Coast.
I also fancy in the same race
RAINBOW SPECTRE - Another lightly raced galloper. Had excuses last start.

I think I will try the tri 3/5/F and 5/3/F.

Hi Magoo, notice Rogue's March is going around in race 7 (2000m) tomorrow at Pinjarra. Only beaten 2 lengths at Albany last start (1800m) starting equal favourite. Stewards comments - "ROGUE'S MARCH was unable to obtain a clear run over the final 600m". Should be ready to produce at 4th run back from a spell. On or near best form, I've rated a top chance.

My selections for the Chaff City Classic (race 5) tomorrow at Pinjarra Park are:-

Mr Callahan - has to be the one to beat. 9 of the 13 horses lining up against this fellow tomorrow, were easily beaten by Mr Callahan at his last start. And he meets all 9 on similar weights.

Expect Tribula & Storm Shot to be improved by their last run & be the hardest to beat.

True Steel a chance at odds, races very well fresh and is sure to be running on strongly over the final bit.

For a good quality sprint, doesn’t look to be a lot of early speed in this race.
Will be interesting to see how Blevvo is ridden first up and from a wide barrier.

Open race on paper with around 3 lengths between top and lowest rated.

I’ve rated three horses equal top, including one of your selections, El Gordo.

Also rated some likely long-shots close enough to the top three, to be good chances with any luck in running.

Is that it Perth Placegetter? Is that all the advice you're gonna post

Mumble....mumble......mumble....

Agree with you El Gordo, Mr Callahan has to be the one to beat, especially with the addition of the pontiff, Paul Harvey.

Fireband has drawn well, and if you can forgive his last start failure, must also be a strong chance.

Kensyl Bay another drawn well, will appreciate the step-up in distance.

My roughie is Air Of Supremacy with underrated hoop Jason Brown doin the steering.

Courtesy The West Australian website:

Leading bookmaker Brett Lenton has South-West sprint stars Mr Callahan and Kensyl Bay fancied to fight out the finish of today's $50,000 Chaff City Classic (1300m) at Pinjarra.

Lenton said their ability matched any other rival and their inside barriers had given them the advantage on the Pinjarra track which this season has favoured on-pace runners.

Mr Callahan, to be ridden by Paul Harvey, has barrier three on the outside of Kensyl Bay.

Kensyl Bay, ridden by Glen Smith for Boyanup trainer Tom Widdeson, finished a last-start eighth behind Mr Callahan in the $40,000 Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on February 22 and meets him on 1.5kg better terms in today's race.

Harvey trainer Michael Campbell has Mr Callahan primed for a second successive win in the Classic to keep alive his chances of taking out the $50,000 Clark Rubber bonus which is offered to a horse that can win the Cyril Flower, Chaff City and $60,000 Bunbury Stakes on March 18.

Campbell said he would love to win the treble before flying out to Ireland to check on shuttle sire Danetime in Dublin. Danetime, who stood his first season at Campbell's Bellbridge Stud, is the leading first season sire in Europe with 19 individual winners of 32 races.

Lenton said the way the barrier draw fell made it a race for Mr Callahan and Kensyl Bay because both liked to be up on the pace.

He did not like the chances of talented sprinters Tribula, Storm Shot and Dexian.

"Tribula looks like she will have to race outside the leader and that's not in her favour," Lenton said. "Storm Shot's wide draw means he will be back in the field and Dexian was disappointing when he resumed behind Mr Callahan.

"Fireband could be the danger. He beat Mr Callahan two starts ago with a well-timed run and it could happen again. He's a dangerous horse caged up behind the leaders."

Jockey Daniel Staeck said he expected Dexian to improve sharply on his first-up failure.

"First-up is not his go but he has an extremely good second-up record," Staeck said.

What do you want for nothing Paddy?

If it helps any further one of your selections is another of my equal top three.

In the Pinjarra Cup on Sunday the main chances (based on my ratings) are (in tab no. order):

(1) Exit Lane
(2) Alibi Bay
(3) Main Stage
(4) Son Of Vasac
(5) Fore Stay
(8) Tango Man
(10) Charming Story
(14) Money Is Magic
(15) Party Boy

Couple of others with some hope.
Main Stage and Money Is Magic yet to be tried over a distance further than 1800m /2000m.

Many thanks for bringing that to my attention, Sandgroper. And thanks to all for your input. Still enough time to hit the PubTab and give the last half of the card a shake armed with some good advice.

All the Best

Magoo
