Also expect a big run from Finito first-up from a spell (if the pace is on). Last time first-up ran a nose 2nd to Mr Callahan over 1400m at Ascot and meets that horse 3kg better. Wouldn't be surprised to see big improvement from Kensyl Bay who ran a close 2nd in this race last year to Old Fashion.

Courtesy The West Australian website:
The $465,000 stake earner Finito who has not raced for three months but is a first-up winner seems sure to be heavily backed in the Bunbury Stakes. Trainer David Harrison's Bunbury Stakes runners Storm Shot and Blevvo are thriving. They finished third and sixth, respectively, in last Thursday week's Chaff City Classic at Pinjarra. "Storm Shot is jumping out of his skin," Harrison said yesterday. "He ran a great race after being forced wide on the home turn at Pinjarra. Blevvo will go to Sydney after running in the Bunbury Stakes and the Strickland Stakes at Ascot in three weeks." Owner-trainer Arthur Mortimer will remove blinkers from the gear of Bunbury Stakes runner Tribula, who pulled hard and finished fourth in the Chaff City Classic. A vet will examine Bunbury Cup topweight Exit Lane today and recommend if the gelding should start. The horse had hoof soreness after running third in yesterday week's Pinjarra Cup. "Exit Lane still has slight swelling and probably won't race again until the Strickland," according to his trainer Megan Midgley. Dashing Scene, unplaced after being blocked in the Pinjarra Cup, will be a Bunbury Cup runner for Midgley.

On paper 4 lengths between top & bottom rated.
Should be plenty of pace on, unlike the Chaff City Classic at Pinjarra recently. Have rated both Storm Shot and Finito in my first four Paddy. Kensyl Bay just outside first six on recent ratings, but a strong chance on best rating. _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-17 11:41 ] [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2003-03-17 11:59 ] |

A tricky affair the Bunbury Stks with the likely leaders and handy runners drawing wide so may have to spend early and be sitting ducks later.
Kensyl Bay looks to be set for this. Its the fourth run after a letup, the distances are slowly increasing so should be sharp, Weight down 1 1/2kg on last run, nice draw, proven performer who can run time. I rate Storm Shot and e/w hope with Mr Callahan, Kames Hope and Inzagni rating high on pace.

Bunbury today - Tuesday 18th Mar.
R4: Expect Reggee to get back to best with Paul Harvey on top. Turnerz to improve. Rustic Hero & Pagan King also chances. R5: In The City well drawn & well weighted. Old Boomer to improve and will be running on strongly. Pepper Assault & Dekko next best. R6: No Paul Harvey - amazing! Storm Shot & Finito look the top two. Tribula, Kensyl Bay & Dexian main dangers. R7: Princess Alive beaten fav. at Ascot last start looks hardest to beat. Bronze Haul, Sharach & Shep - all value chances. R8: The topweight Repertoire (with blinkers added) looks the main chance. Cherry Blossom well drawn & has the services of Paul Harvey. Rustique & Valouise next best. R9: Cavo Doro to make it two on the trot. Merry Monarch goes well fresh. Ostraval & Oshi chances.

Reported this morning that last years Bunbury Cup winner Exit Lane won't be lining up on Thursday - still suffering from hoof soreness.
