Just out of interest I had a look at the Unitab's ratings. With today's racing so far, the top selection of 100 points that has at least four points more than the second selection (96 or less) has performed quite well. According to my calcs, the results based using Unitab divvies are:

Kembla R2 no. 1. Placed - $1.50
Kembla R4 no. 12. Won - $3.10 and $1.60
Kembla R5 no. 4. Won - $2.30 amd $1.50
Eagle F. R2 no. 11. Did not place.
Eagle F. R3 no. 3. Placed $ 1.80
M'ton R1 no. 9. Won - $4.20 and $1.90

I understand there are a few people here who follow the ratings or base a system(s) on them. Has anyone got any thoughts or records of the above?

For some silly reason, I've never really worried too much about how far they are in front of the 2nd rated horse. That looks pretty good, although there was just another unplaced runner at Murray Bridge I think.

Yes, Sportznut. It ran fourth and there was now a loser at Eagle Farm. These two losing selections were only 4 points (100 - 96) ahead of the second-best rater.

M'ton R7 no. 4 ran second (5 points gap), Ascot R3 no. 3 (5 points gap) won, so too did M'ton R8 no. 6 (8 points gap). Maybe a gap of 5 points or more might be worth looking at? even though there were one or two "4 gap" selections that won earlier.

Michael
I had noticed during my research that Sat metros seemed to provide a lot of winners using your method but almost always the horse started favourite so a high hit rate would be required.

Hi, Jacfin.

I am currently looking at three Place systems which I posted today in this forum (one of the selections was incorrectly posted as Wyong R3 no. 1 instead of no. 2). Anyway, the three methods have been improved by omitting any selection not in the outright first-three faves of the pre-post market.

By applying this filter to today's Unitab selections, three horses were eliminated. There were originally (by my reckoning) eleven selections, and after deleteing these three horses only eight remained for eight placings including five winners. None of the eliminated horses placed but all of the qualifiers placed or won.

Jacfin, a high strike rate should be expected (hopefully) as the selection would most likely be in the top three faves. Judging on today's results I think it's worth looking at.

I'll monitor tomorrow's selections and post them on this forum.

Michael
It may be worth your while looking at 3 points clear as well.
I, for one, would appreciate you listing the probable selections in the morning as in WA I'm usually at work when the meetings start and, altho, I can check the forum I can't get away with checking 32 races or so.
Good work.

Did you guys know that you can usually look at the Unitab ratings the night before. On most days, the Unitab website puts up their ratings for the following days races and you can see them simply by clicking on 'Tomorrow'. Tomorrow's ratings are on there right now. Of course, this doesn't help you with scratchings, but at least it gives you an idea.
