I am putting data into a ratings program I am constructing.
The cells in one of the rows contain numerous different numbers.
I need to know which cell in this row contains the largest number.
At the moment I have to look at every cell in this row to find out which is the largest.
Maybe there is a formula that looks through the rows and then prints the cell name and saves me a lot of time.
Please help me.

Hi Mooee, Try using the Data,then Filter option on your toolbar, and then you can filter whatever you want.

It seems okay to do as you suggest if the data was in a column.
Unfortunately for me my data is in a row.
But it was worth chasing up Ken because I am now aware of one more tool.
Maybe another suggestion?

Try using formula in a vacant cell as follows

=max(a1:x1)

where "a1" is your 1st cell of row and "x1" is the last cell of your row, this will give you the highest amount

If you need to know which cell this is then you will have to use the "find" feature after highlighting the whole row. To highlight, click in 1st cell, then click and hold down your right mouse button whilst dragging all the way to the last cell

"Find" is under the "edit" section of your toolbar

Problem now stems from some cells in the row include a division by zero.
I can get around that by moving or perhaps deleting the offending rows out of my selected range.
Well done.
And this also helps me with Min(X:X)

To get rid of the "div by 0" problem, have each of the formulas in these cells (or all cells) first refer to the first collumn that you start putting info in and if that collumn has nothing in it then the cell in question can display "0" eg.

=if(a1=0,0,formula)

where "formula" is the equation you want worked out

Then, when your "Max" and "Min" formulas work something out "zero" will obviously be lower or higher than the other amounts.

Appreciate the help again but I'm not seeing too clearly here.
Got by the problem by putting a 0.1 in the cell where the 0 was the divisor.
For some reason this worked fine but I'm sure your suggestion is more neater.
Anyway if I get caught up again I'll know who to call.

if you have any "excel" queries. I play around with it a lot when recording all my bets and getting all the percentages/stats etc out for what I do.

I've got mine doing breakups for everything including win strike rates, place strike rates, profits/losses, track and state stats, distances, class etc and the list goes on.
