Geelong Quaddie - another maiden.
Another maiden programmed into the first leg of the quaddie today.
4 first starters, 5 horses resuming from a spell. NOT FOR THE RANK AND FILE PUNTERS. Who but those in a privileged positon could know of the ability of the first starters or the fitness levels of those resuming. Race 3 is a C1 hcp. with 11 starters, only 1 resuming from a spell and all have a form history of sorts. Why is this sort of programming taking place.? |

Try six of 'em...
Here in the states, we have the pick 6, where one must pick the winner of 6 consecutive races. We get those horrendous maiden races in them too. Makes it pretty much a lottery instead of handicapping skills being advantageous. Hell, they even have a quik pick for it, where you order a computer generated bet with 6 random runners. That IS a lottery, plain and simple. Track officials have told me that they card the crappy races in the gimmick in order to give it a huge, jackpot payoff, which in turn lures more suckers to the track...
The twin trifecta is not much easier. We have a superfecta where one must pick the 1st 4 finishers of a race in order. Still preferable to picking the winner of four different races, in my opinion. There are daily doubles and pick threes, which are a bit easier. Good luck to you. Regards, Glenn

Thanks for your reply. I think a pick six is now operating in Victoria on the Saturday Metropolitan meeting. I believe the only way you can indulge in this lottery is to buy a computer generated ticket. There is prizemoney for different tiers, i.e. 3 winners, 4 winners, 5 winners etc. If nobody picks the six, then it jackpots. Imagine the skulduggery that might go on if punters were allowed to make their own selections and the pool had reached two million dollars. |

Very frustrating this, i never bet on Maiden races myself, so it is very frustrating when 2-3 midweek meetings a week open the quaddie with a crappy maiden race. At Geelong today for example, their is a class 1 which is race 3, then a maiden race 4 to start the quaddie. Cannot work out why they wouldnt be reversed, it would make my punting much easier!

Have had a cursory glance over the maiden field in the first leg of the quaddie. You could not seriously leave out any of the first starters and would have to include at least 4 of the raced brigade. Only a privileged few have knowledge of the first starters. To have to kick of a quaddie with at least 8 selections is problematical. The clubs in cahoots with the TAB are succeeding in making this type of wagering a lottery. It is not a lottery for those in the know though. In the past I have likened this privileged knowledge of unraced horses as being akin to insider trading on the share markets. |

Players can select their own picks in our pick 6. Of course, using multiple horses in races increases the cost of the wager tremendously quick. Many play 100s if not 1,000s trying to strike the huge jackpot. The pool carries over on days with no winners, and I have seen it well over a million many times. I rarely play it, too much of a "lottery" for me.
