Default Rest in peace

Apprentice jockey Gavin Lisk, 23, began riding only midway through last year. He got his third win at Avoca last Saturday on Zephyr Beat. His master, leading Caulfield trainer, Mick Price, suggested Gavin Lisk was ready to start making a name for himself.

Two days later, in just his 74th. race ride, Gavin Lisk had a horrific race fall at Moe, suffering severe head and spinal injuries. He died last night at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

Mick Price described Gavin Lisk as "a little champion and has been from day one."

Rest in peace, Gavin Lisk

Adrian Ledger, 25, was well known to followers of Melbourne racing for his rides on classy galloper Brave Chief, trained by his father, John.

Adrian Ledger, received head injuries in a fall at Corowa on Sunday, and died on Monday in a Canberra hospital. His best mate, Mark Goring, 23, was killed two years ago in a race fall at Tatura.

At the time Adrian Ledger placed a notice in the Melbourne "Herald Sun" which said in part:

"I will always have happy memories of a good mate."

It is an utter tragedy that he should be taken the same way, leaving behind his pregnant wife, Amy.

Rest in peace Adrian Ledger.

Our commiserations go out to family and friends of Gavin Lisk and Adrian Ledger.

My hearfelt sympathies go to the families and friends of these jockeys who were taken from us in such a tragic manner.

I can't believe there was not one other post. Is everyone too busy posting ways to make money to spare a moment's thought here for two young men tragically taken from us.

What a ************ disgrace.

Mr Tragic,

I have just arrived home from a holiday and perhaps you are right. We who love and enjoy the punt can tend to take jockeys for granted, as just another part of this grand industry. There is no doubting there courage in a tough sport where the big winners are often the only ones thought of.

Rest in Peace Adrian Ledger and Gavin Lisk.
