Hi all

I want to study +- 3 years of historical metropolitan race data (prices, weights, margins etc).

Can anyone advise me how to get such data effectively (and as cheaply as possible)?

Thanks

Mr Chameleon

The only reliable one I know of is http://www.aapracing.com.au
I don't know what they charge, sorry.

Oop, sorry, they charge $434.00 for one year and you can get info like the Sportsman on individual horses only...will keep searching

STANDBY....

Try this it is FREE http://www.matouka.com I think they give past results.
Let me know if it was what you're looking for.

Thanks for the prompt reply, EI.

The AAP data looks good, but is quite expensive.

I came across "South Coast Database" in a search. Have you heard of them?

What do you professionals do about data collection and collation?

Thanks

MC

MC,

Tabcorp (www.tabracing.com.au) and QLD TAB (www.tabonline.com.au) both have their results for last few years freely available (back to 1997 or 1998 I think from memory) which includes barrier, weight, final approximate win/place div and results. Unfortunately they don't have margins, times, etc but it could be a good starting point. NSW TAB only has the results but you can buy a CD containing the full approximates, etc for each year for around $9 I think - last time I checked they only had up to end of 2000 so I don't know whether 2001 is available yet.

I actually wrote a program to download all the results from the TABCORP and Qld websites and purchased the 2000 CD from NSW to get some dividend history (I am a computer programmer by trade). My program now downloads all the data from these websites live each day so that I can get additional info that the TABs do not provide in their history files. This is supplemented by my own manual research from newspapers, websites, etc.

Any chance of getting a copy of that program?

....or is that pressing a friendship a bit far?

Thanks BC

Could you point me towards the link where I might buy the NSW tab CD? I've wandered around nswtab.com.au but haven't come across it.

Thanks

MC

Tabcorp is good.

Where could you obtain pre-race form - like in the newspaper???
Good having the results, but one needs pre-race form to help identify factors that the winners had in common.

I could do individual searches on ozeform - but that would take forever.

MC,
The CD's are 8.80 each for account customers and are available for 1995-2000. The details on the CD are at:

http://www.racetab.com.au/promos/CDPromo/CDRomPromo.asp

EI: Hmm - not at the moment! Currently that program has all my selection logic in it and some other stuff that I don't want to give away. If I get good enough at this investing to give up my other job then I might have the time to split out the data collection/statistics from my selection stuff and then we can talk  Also the database file is now about 300MB so it is a bit big to email around!

Thanks for your help, EI and BC

I'll check out the alternatives and report back to this forum.
